~Don't take any Tums or other types of medication within the hour of taking your Nexxium.
Don't eat acidic fruits or juices, eat small meals and ask for some prilosec or buy it yourself. It works great.
You could have a tear in your esophagus, which there is no cure for, just treatments.
Good luck. Baking soda and water helps too.~

After you get all this sorted out with your doctor, take his advice on what kinds of foods to eat and try EXERCISING. Make 45 minutes of cardio your daily (or at LEAST 4 times a week) routine. I suffer from major acid reflux, but I can keep it under control with exercise. When I stop exercising it comes back. Your problem might be more serious and might require medication and a stricter diet, but exercise will make things even better. It's hard at first to get into the routine, esp if you are suffering with the pain of acid reflux, but it gets better in about two weeks. In the long-run it will benefit your overall health.

not enough acid is the cause. I was taking those little purple pills and they are so expensive. I read Kevin Treadu, What the Goverment Don't want you to know about Natural Cures. that is not the way you spell his last name though. He said to take a spoon of Vinegar. I took a spoonful followed by some water....lol in the morning and sometimes during the day. I don't have that problem anymore. No high priced medicine and no pain.

After your UGI test you will know what the problem is causing your anatomy to do this to you. Meanwhile stay away strictly from spicy, curried, hot, acidic fruits. You have to eat very bland in small amounts. If you are overweight or obese then you have to work on it to cutting back your calories intake plus the fats you consume. Dairy products can be a culprit to your problem. Do not eat late toward the evening and snacking late at night.
When your doctor let you know the outcome ask him about the "Nissen profundoplasty" procedure usually for chronic and serious reflux (up to the mouth/throat area).
Take your nexium before a big meal and the protonix at bedtime. Try it and let your body/stomach tell you the right foods that calm your insides. Be aware what to put into your body. No soda either especially the DIET ones.

Oh man I had the same thing. I had already did the upper gi exam. The found that I had a hiatal hernia and Gastritis which caused my esophaghitis. I was taking Protonix too but the ER doctor only gave me 1 refill so now im taking generic omeprazole. This is my first day on it. The Protonix kinda helped with the eating and got rid of some nausea, but I still feel pretty bad. I would suggest that you eat small meals and watch for food that are fried, spicy, and drink plenty of water. This is all what my doctor told me to do. I have a follow up with him tomorrow. Yeah they have to review my ultrsound I had done too. I hope everything is fine. I'll keep you in my prayers I'm having the same messed up situation just want to let you know it will get better. Take care. And seriously watch what you eat!!

I do not Know much about your health from your question.
Zantac is an H-2 blocker 150 Mg Over the counter sometimes works when nothing else will. I also take some Rolaids with me on bad days as well.
Keep your appointment with the gastroenterologist and have the upper GI done.. It usually will not show much and they will need to follow with a pan endoscopy into the esophagus. This will help them to see what kind of shape your esophagus is in.
Pan-endoscopy is a procedure that allows the physician to examine the lining of the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract (i.e. the esophagus, stomach and duodenum). This involves the passage of a tube by mouth through the esophagus into the stomach and duodenum. The tube is long and flexible and contains a light source, lens system for focusing and fiber optics. The fiber optics conduct light to within these organs and an image back to a video camera that is connected to a monitor. The tube also contains a channel through which small instruments can be passed for various different uses.
I have been through it all including a lower GI as well.
Good luck....loligo1@yahoo.com

Make sure that when you sleep, majorly prop yourself up on pillows. This keeps the acid from coming up your esophogus (sp). Cut way back or even out of anything with acid in it like pop, citrus fruits. Caffiene is bad for it too, even chocolate.
This is what my md told me to do.

Go to the candy isle in the supermarket and pick up some Canada Wintergreen candies. My mom swears by them and I can vouch they work to.
Also, try sleeping with the head of your bed propped up so that you're stomach is a little lower than your head when you sleep. That's a tip from the doc'.
