Revelation 4:6: And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.

In the manuscripts, these are called "living creatures", not "beasts" as it was translated in the King James, among other Bibles -
They are different than the Angels, and are in direct service to God at the throne - just like you might own a company, and have a personal assistant - they are the personal assistants of God Himself. The eyes they have in front and in back of them maintain total sight of what is going on, both in Heaven and on earth. They report directly to God in that respect. They do not leave the throne - should that be required, and Angel would be directed to go.
If anyone ever says that God doesn't know whats going on - I'd quickly beg to differ.

TO "Soon2bmom" - The Book of Revelation is not hard to understand. Its people that make it seem like a mysterious Book. The manuscripts along with the footnotes of them are quite clear about what is being said in Revelation.

These are the four living creatures who are Cherubim angels protecting the Throne of God in Heaven. These angels are about to enter into the judgment of the world as God dispatches them during the Tribulation on the earth.

Revelation 4:6 mentioned “four CREATURES” full of eyes. This just means that these creatures surrounding God’s presence is aware of everything. Creatures with such equipment could be continually on the watch, able to see all things. They would be fully aware of what was taking place here on earth and would take note of God in all things and observe all his indications of what God wants done.

I've heard it described as the man who will embody the spirit of antichrist. He will be shot in the head and after he is made to "miraculously" heal, then he becomes the actual antichrist. The other opinion is that it is one of the nations that is nearly destroyed and then rises strongly surprising the world. The last opinion is that the last Pope (the next one) and the Vatican is the little horn. He is supposed to be shot in the head, as before, and rise as a traitor to the faith. The last Pope from the wall that the images of all previous Popes are on. There is only room for one more after the current one.

The word translated "Beasts" should be translated "LIVING CREATURES," as in the Revised Version. The word here translated "beast" (Zoon), is not the same as the one translated "beast" (Therion) in chapters eleven, thirteen, and seventeen. The word here used means a "living being" or "creature," while the word used in chapters eleven, thirteen, and seventeen, means a wild, untamed animal.

We dont know yet. (And I hope no one answers pretending to know)

Revelations was written as a "revelation" or a dream and John wrote as he could understand. For example - my humble opinion is that the giant black locusts are actually hellicopters. But because there were no such thing as helicopters in Johns time, he described it as best he could.

THe four beasts are somewhat of an enigma...they are special creations of God that really are quite hard to comprehend...many theologians refer the "full of eyes" as their ability too see all things

I think it's the four nations that have incredible amounts of intelligence (spies and armies, etc) at the end of times that will fight in the battle of Armageddon.
