cool mist, hands down! It makes up for the loss of moisture in the air. There are no bad effects on health. I have COPD and WARM mist would only create an environment for bacteria to grow, VERY qucikly. Warm mist humidifiers ARE made for a reason....I suggest never use one unless directed to by a dr. Running one all night is fine. Make sure your water receptacle is large enough to last however many hours or it will dry up, fry the humidifier, and then become an immediate FIRE HAZARD!!!!!

cool humidifiers, cause they work with water at room temperature... warm humidifiers are good, but what happens when you leave the room?

They work great, they humidify your nose, throat and respiratory system, however, if you have them in a room with electronics you need to cover them up or even better, take them out the room, as the high humidity could spoil them.

It's safe to run them all night, close to your bed, but at some point you are going to feel your hair, nose and face so wet!

I have always been told by my doctor that cool mist is best. Warm mist can breed and spread bacteria. A cool mist can eventually as well, so keep it spotlessly clean.
