one a day, but this can slow in winter due to not having enough light in a day
if you do get chickens i reccoment corn feeding them. the eggs yolk comes a much deeper yellow and tasted better.
also need to feed the ckickens grit so they can produce an egg with a tough shell
edit - to the person below, our chickens are 3 years old and still are producing one egg a day!

A hen will lay one egg approximately every 25 hours. So a single average hen may lay an egg for three or four days in a row and then "take the day off" when her laying time reaches late in the day, she will then "start over" the next day. They will lay until about eighteen months, then molt (lose their feathers), and start laying again once the molt is over, although the frequency will start to decline after this. Some hens have been known to slowly but regularly produce eggs at an advanced age. For efficiency's sake, many keeps cull older hens after the second (first post-molt) egg laying cycle.

Hybrid hens like Hylines and Black Rocks will lay 300 + eggs per year with the right food and living conditions. Pure breeds tend to lay fewer eggs although some are strong producers e.g Australorp, Light Sussex and Rhode Island Reds.
Production is by affected food quality, availability of essential minerals and length of daylight (or artficial light in battery farm hell-holes).

It depends a lot on the breed. Commercial birds lay prolifically from an early age, but are 'burnt out' at 18months, and go off to become pies and soup for their troubles. Go for a good hardy old fashioned breed- Plymouth Black Rock, Leghorn, Rhode Island Red- they lay about 200 eggs a year.
