Veuve Cliquot? I respectfully disagree with that. I'd MUCH rather pay $30 for a bottle of Schramsberg Blanc De Noirs at my Trader Joe's than $45 for a bottle of that Non Vintage Veuve. Yes, Veuve is tasty, but it doesn't hold up to a vintage Schramsberg.
I own 50+ bottles of bubbly, and the only French stuff I touch is vintage. A good French Champagne is divine, a non-vintage Frenchie isn't nearly as good as a good US Vintage Champagne.

Don't get me wrong, I own a Veuve, but it's a 99 Rose'. I also own 5 or 6 bottles of French bubbly, but all (except one special bottle) are Vintage. All the importation taxes and duties just make it too expensive here in the states.
PS - "Vintage" is bubbly from a certain year. "Non-Vintage" is from a blend of years. Vintage is typically more expensive and better quality than non-vintage.

Veuve Clicquot. It's not $75 a bottle, it costs around $45. It's probably the best you can do for actual champagne. If you wanted a different type of parkling white wine, try prosecco. It's a little sweeter than champagne and because it's not from France you can usually get a pretty good one for around $20 or so.

Veuve & Clicquot. You won't get good champagne for less than about $85 Can, or about $75 U.S. That's just how it is. You could go for Henkel Trokken for about $13 Can/prob. $11 U.S.

I do not know if you can find it in your area but I swear by Verdi. It is only $8.00 a bottle in New Jersey, so it is affordable anywhere and it actually tastes good.
