Explain why the Qur'an says to only fight in self-defence and to desist when your enemies want peace:
[2.190] And fight in the way of Allah with those who fight with you, and do not exceed the limits, surely Allah does not love those who exceed the limits.
[2.191] And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from whence they drove you out, and persecution is severer than slaughter, and do not fight with them at the Sacred Mosque until they fight with you in it, but if they do fight you, then slay them; such is the recompense of the unbelievers.
[2.192] But if they desist, then surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
[2.193] And fight with them until there is no persecution, and religion should be only for Allah, but if they desist, then there should be no hostility except against the oppressors.

Fruitcake, I know America, on a whole, wants to have peace. I live in America also. The problem comes from "Dubya" wanting to constantly send more and more troops in to the Middle East. Hypothetical: If I was leading an army against you and some of my men wished peace, but I continued the attack, would you see only the people who wish peace or an invading army?

Gnostic - I pride myself on being an American Muslim, and as such, I stand firmly against the terroristic acts committed by the radicals in the Middle East. These groups have forgotten what the true meaning of Islam is.

I know it says this, but plenty of people here will deny it though they know nothing about Islam or the Qur'an.

Actually, ALL religions are evil.
It's just that the Muslim evil is en-vogue these days:
"[2.190] And fight in the way of Allah with those who fight with you, and do not exceed the limits, surely Allah does not love those who exceed the limits.
[2.193] And fight with them until there is no persecution, and religion should be only for Allah, but if they desist, then there should be no hostility except against the oppressors."

I hate to tell you buddy, but the majority of people in Iraq see the people wanting peace. Most of the insurgents in Iraq are transplants from countries like Iran and Syria who are inciting a few Iraqis to take up arms based on the very passages you cite here.

The Quran says lots of things that contradict each other.
Sometimes it says to Kill all Christians and Jews; other times it says to forgive Christians and Jews...so which is it?
You will know that a religion is evil not by reading a book but by the actions of the followers of that religion.
I know very good Muslims; I also know very evil Muslims...which are you?

To those who think Islam is peaceful, explain why 3000+ innocent civilians were slaughtered on 9-11-2001. Surely the hijackers weren't acting in self-defense.

If your interpretation is true, then why did mohamed and his followers invade for force islam on multitudes of people? What was he defending himself from there. Read Tuba (sura 9) verse 5: "Slay the idolaters where you find them, adn take them captive, adn besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush." Of course, then it says, if they become muslims, then leave them alone. Of course, we know from history, that when they become muslims, that's only the beginning of the oppression. In Egypt, the egyptiasn for forbidden to speak their own language even.

Satan is not stupid. He's going to give you good advice too. But guranteed, he's going to dispute the Nature and Purpose of Christ. That's the whole point!
