I won an item off of ebay and gave the sender the wrong address. The item has already been shipped. Anything I can do?

That's a real problem on several levels. First you may end up violation Ebay's TOS because in theory you could be misdirecting a package . From the USPS' point of view you can't redirect a package unless you've moved and have a valid change of address on file

As long as the address is in the same city, all hope is not lost. A bad street address on the same street is unlikely to cause a problem, as the same carrier is likely to have both addresses. Your carrier is familiar with you and will recognize the error. Call your local post office and ask for the carrier supervisor. He or she can alert the carrier for the wrong address to hold the item at the post office for pick-up. You will probably be required to show identification as the addressee, but this should not create a problem. The NALC steward is correct, technically, but every attempt is made to deliver first class mail. I'm a throwback/mark-up clerk, and routinely see mail with bad or partial addresses which are corrected and delivered. If the item is going to another town, though, the sender needs to call the office at that destination and ask that it be returned to him.
