its something that is totally up to you. If you dont want to be homeless then you need to keep peace, but on the other hand if your Father in law is abusing the dog, he is breaking a law, and he is being cruel to an animal that is not his. He can not do this its a law to not abuse animals. IF IF IF he is doing it. You need to thouroughly investigate that fencing. You must first catch him in the act. You will have to do undercover work. Some how... webcams, asking neighbors to watch, getting your husband to watch. DO SOMETHING... dont let this happen continually because if he is slicing up your dog, the dog dies or you rush him to a vet cause eventually he gets bad enough to do some real damage. #1 you will be held accountable by authorities because you knew he was doing it but didnt do anything about it.
#2 you will feel guilt that you didnt protect your own dog
#3 this man escalates into abusing people.
Its shown that people abusing pets, eventually being abusing humans.
ITs a no win situation and think of that poor dog, hes a PITT BULL the last thing you want is him to become afraid of people. He could turn on your father in law if he feels he is in danger of this man, believe me that Pittbull can do more damage to him than father in law can do to him.
Just try to figure out if its him.
if it is, turn him in for abuse, and then deal with finding a temporary home for yourself and your dog. Or find a new home for doggie.
JOHN I AM SHOCKED at your answer as a shelter manager you should have a clear mind and compassion for everyone included humans, not everyone can have a stable situation and perfect sunny life. Just because she lives at home doesnt mean that she is a bad owner. Get your thumb outta your A** and stop being part of the problem and be more of a solution.

I think it seems like it is the fence. I sure would not have put him in there after the first time he was injured. If you used electric fence with three strands this could not happen. I have usued it for a long time. In it I contain three dobes, a beagle and a chow x.No one has ever got loose, it works great. Where I bought my dobe they used it and they have dogs worth multi- thousands and need to be sure they are safe. It is the best I have found and very inexpensive. You could even get a solar charger if you wanted. I use electric and have had the battery ones but like the electric better. I to once dealt with the in-law housing situation and nothing is worth that sometimes.I moved into my car with kids and dogs once because of it and it was worth it. I think we ended up getting our own place quicker because we then had to make it our priority.Lets be real for gods sake. The dog is not going to stand by and routinely let your fil slice him up.It even sounds ludicrous. The dog is getting hurt on the fence and it happens very easily.Wire fencing has many sharp ends.

It sounds like a screwy situation. I find it odd that he doesn't hurt himself any other time when you're home, but when you go out and come back, he just happens to be all sliced up. I'm not sure what to tell you as I've never been faced with a problem such as this. Is your father-in-law blatantly mean towards the dog? Does he show any kind of aggression or ill-will towards him at all? You need to be careful, as Pitbulls have the ability to revolt against people that abuse them. Maybe your father-in-law is looking for an easy way to get rid of the dog by having him attack someone by hurting him. Only he doesn't realize that the dog will eventually turn on him from the constant abuse.

First, check the fence. If it has any sharp edges fix them or put something over the sharp parts, also talk to your father in law about maybe getting a different kind of fence, maybe some chicken wire if he keeps running through the fence. Either way, check out the fence. He also might have a problem with your father in law and be trying to get away from him.
Or if you want, try asking a friend if you can leave your dog with them or even buy a kennel and have your dog get used to spending time in there when you're gone. Also if possible, since you're going to your parents, take him with you.

I think your father-in-law is hurting your dog and one of these days that dog will turn on him. Do not leave your dog unattended. Take your dog with you. No animal deserves that. You tell that man to keep his hands off your dog and call the police. There are animal cruelty laws that could get him jail time.
It almost seems like the idiot doesn't want you there and he's TORTURING your dog to send a message to you. If you are really so poor that you need to stay there, then you really need to do the right thing by finding that dog a loving and stress free home. Can you ask your parents to keep the dog? Just remember, people who hurt animals land up hurting people in the same way. If he can cause an animal to bleed, you may next.

Next time you get attacked, in case you have none of the ones different well strategies on you, listed here are a few matters: If the puppy has a chunk, keep your surrender it is nostril TIGHT. The puppy makes use of it is nostril to respire whilst it holds the chunk. If it cant breathe, it's going to most likely allow move...or move out. Pick the puppy up by means of the again of the legs and dangle it there. If feasible, as some distance clear of you as you'll. This will restrict the puppy from extra injuring you or others or attacking once more. Break the tail. I understand this sounds harsh, but when all else failed that is what I could do. I understand Bully breeds can tolerate a bigger quantity of affliction, however I dont suspect it's going to be ready to disregard that. If the ones matters failed, I could finish the opposite puppy. I consider the poster above me. Attacking my puppy past useful removing = loss of life. I wont move into element approximately easy methods to do it.

You could always buy a small video cam and placed it in the area to see what is really going on. Once you find out for sure you can better deal with the situation. Wether it is fixing the fence, reporting and taking the evidence to the SPCA if the dog is being abused, or find a safe enviroment for your dog.

Is there any damage, blood,or sharp edges on the fence,.I think you should ask somebody to take care of him while you are at work or ask them to watch over him ,.Do you live in the same house as your in- laws (bad idea). Can you shut in him the house when you go out.?Did your Dad - in law see it happen if you ask him and he is responsible it won't be long before he gives himself away. Why don't you take a day off work and keep watch to see if anything happens .Take photos if anything does. The other solution is to get a pet proof fence.Post and rail with galvanized steel mesh is the best.Save up as much money as you can,to get your own house,.It isn't nice to have a father - in- law you don't trust ,I don't see you leaving your future children with him.

I could see it happening, getting cut on the fence...if he's seeing squirrels or other animals and trying to get to them.
If your FIL is abusing him, it would more likely be blunt force trauma, not cuts and slices. I think your dog may be indeed trying to get out.
Can you have him in a crate? Or tied away from the fence at least. Or better yet, is there someone else who could take care of him for a little while?

Have you checked the fence to see if thee were any spots he could have hurt himself on? If your FIL is hurting your dog, and you can not leave or report him, the only other option would be to find a new home for your dog. It is the only fair thing to do for the dog. There are pitbull rescues that will help. If you choose another rescue, I would be careful as some are unfair to pitbulls.
