I stopped at a stop light in the wilds of Maine at 2AM awhile ago. After going on, a car pulled up behind me tailgateing and with high beams on. They wouldn't pass on straight stretches and I couldn't reach my golf balls to heave out towards them, so finally I came to a steep uphill and took her out of gear. After coming to a stop and starting to roll backwards they finally passed- turned out to be a cop. The town is known for having cops like that What can I do for society to get rid of them?

-I'm 33 not 13
- Less than a car length behind for 20 miles is a little long to be reading a liscence plate.
- I have a very good job and probably make more than you do thanks all the same.
- If a car doesn't pass you when you're doing 5 mph would you think its a cop "trying to help you out"?

When you need the police and they show up as soon as they can, you criticize them, when they are on the lookout for possible trouble makers, and they follow you, you criticize them......and if you could have, you would have caused troubl( golf balls) so his following you (looking for trouble makers) was justified. For all he knew, you could be a serial killer out prowling for young girls. And if you were, of along those lines, you would have acted brashly.
You have nothing to worry about if you were doing nothing wrong, Do you have a guilty or troubled concience?

Maybe you considered it "harassment" however, the officers are patrolling for the safety of the community.
The following behind you was a time used by the officers to call your registration in and determine specific information about the ownership of the vehicle and to insure the vehicle was not stolen.
By passing you...they obviously learned that everything with the vehicle appeared to be in order and they continued on without stopping you! Where's the "harassment?"
There is no excuse for an officers "bad behavior" as they should be firm yet polite!
If you've contacted the police chief about any legitimate improprieties, I'm sure the officers were reprimanded.
There are avenues to voice your concern that go outside of the realm of the police department to voice concerns of improper conduct by the police. The first stop would be with your parents if you're a juvenile.
As an adult, you can always contact the city or county officials who are in a position to motivate the police chief or sheriff.
Just reading your comments, however, makes me curious to just how you may have acted with a predisposition to confront the officers in the first place!
Less caffeine helps!
Thanks for the 2 points!

first, i want to say that as a future cop, i am insulted by the first two ansers. not all cops are jerks. secondly, there might have been tailgaiting you. it could've been a test to see if you would snap or to see if you were under the influence of anything (alcohol or drugs). the third thing is that they may have been running you plates. if this is true, maybe it was too dark where you were driving so s/he had the highs on. four, you can make a complaint if you want, but what the cop did was not considered as harassment. finally, you can never get rid of cops for society. imagine if there were no cops (or any other law enforcement for that matter) and your house was broken into and all your valubles were stolen? who would you go to in order to get your things back?

Pretty much.... colera667 hit the nail on the head. There is a silent code of justice when it comes to filing charges and complaints on the police. Yeah, they have their internal investigations, and panels but the end result is usually the same. You get nowhere. It takes much time and more money to go up against Law Enforcement in any town. Just check out all the infamous cases on your world news and local news. The best thing to do is Grin and Bear it. Move on and be happy you weren't hurt or ticketed.

I'm sorry, but where was the harassment? It's not against the law for anybody to refuse to pass you. And as someone else answered, the police sometimes do run checks on registrations while on the go.

Let it go. You start a problem with them and you will be the loser for it. You can file complaints and they will be answered but your chances of "getting rid" of them are slight. Something to keep in mind that worked for me is that they are here to help you as well as keep you in line. There may be a time when you need them. It is not a one way street although at times it sure seems that way.

even if if she had strong info of the rape, it truly is nicely surpassed the statute of barriers in any jurisdiction and won't be able to be prosecuted. law enforcement officials get accused of undesirable habit and ability offender acts each and every of the time. A record to his superiors will be tossed in the trash in short order in view that there is legally no longer some thing which will be finished. you ought to easily forget the finished element and allow actually everyone in touch get on with their lives.

Sure...you pay their salary! All 7 cents you contributed this year in taxes....wait....you have a job right? If not then the cops taxes probably went to your welfare checks and food stamps....in that case...you work for the cop and have to put up with it.

If this officer has a history of misuse of authority, then it could lead to his firing. If he is valuable to the dept., they may sanction him, which may be nothing more than a slap on the wrist, and keep him on.

Golf Balls? Drifting backward? Grow up. When something like this happens, just pull over and stop. Allow them to go on.
