Talk to the vets office. There is a rescue organization for each breed and they could get you the contact info.

As a child we rescued Greyhound that were no longer useful on the track so people would leave them in dog crates on the side of the road to die.

I second the Petfinder.com idea. That's where I've gotten all my animals. But note that the animals they put up there are not updated regularly and many of them have already been adopted. It's worth a shot though. I just saw a JRT at the Delaware County SPCA in Pennsylvania the day I adopted my Chihuahua. Good luck.

Look on the internet for Russell Rescue. It is a great site with many wonderful JR's.
