Why is it that so many of you seem to believe it is good to mock things sacred to others for your entertainment? Why are you in a forum about religion and spirituality if this topic is a joke to you? I realize that many are also here to engage in constructive dialog but everyone that participates here has seen what I am asking about.

It's not a joke. I'm interested in religion as social and psychological phenomena, and ones with huge implications in U.S. society.

But sometimes all that Christian earnestness just gets to be a bit too much. Some of you folks really set yourselves up for it. And if you pay attention, you'd see that at least half of my jokes are actually on myself.

One thing that I have really learned from my time here is that many Christians are quick to see any disagreement with them as persecution, hate, insult or mockery. That doesn't mean that their interpretation is right.

Listen to others rather than telling us what we think. It makes for a better conversation.

Dave,

Have you ONCE bothered to look in the gay section at the sheer number of fundie Christians there to spread their hate to gays and lesbians?? to entertain themselves under the auspices of "spreading the gospel"?

I dont come here soley to mack and entertain myself - I come here in an attempt to stop the spread of lies about Science and to hopefully educate some of you people that think evoltution is "just a theory" or that man could not have "come from apes, because there are still apes."

You want constructive dialog, I suggest you take your buttt to a real website that allows for DIALOG, not questions and responses.

For entertainment? No... I tell them god has no evidence and is improbable to exist because I'm worried about the theism virus that has been put into their heads. It needs to be stopped. We should be out of the primitive dark ages by now. It is not a joke at all. It's a very serious issue.

I've said this before and I will say it again. It is for the same reason that christians come on Y!A and mock other religions.
Try being a pagan on this site and asking or answering a constructive Q about moon phases or ritual and see how many mockers you get.
What goes around comes around, and karma is a Biatch!

For the record, most of the time, we're not mocking your sacred things and we're certainly not doing for our entertainment. I don't find religion and spirituality a joke... quite the contrary, there's a part of me that really wishes I could believe.

Most of the time, we're trying to present a rational, logical argument against what we see as a waste of time and effort (believing that something exists when we can't prove it exists).

Look at it from my point of view. I could pray and pray and pray and go to church and go to bible study and pray and pray and pray, and then find out that god really doesn't exist. That's a lot of time I could have spent with my family, playing games and learning, or going to college, or working overtime, or going on a cruise. It's wasted time.

Or I could just live my life, using all of my time to do things here on earth.

If I'm wrong, then it's my business and I get kinda tired of believers constantly telling me how horrible I am and attributing all sorts of things to me because I don't believe that just aren't true (satan worshiping, abortion-lover, gay-lover, America-hater, etc.).

So for me, while I might mock occasionally when some nimrod tosses out one of those tried and true falsehoods about me and what I don't believe, mostly I'm trying to present my point of view in hopes of educating and informing.

i'm not here to mock anybody's beliefs but i am sharing my insight with my experiences and we all have a right to be here as this is a forum that was meant to ask and answer questions and to learn and teach eachother about different religions and non-religions and about different religious beliefs and even about different religious and non-religious peoples experiences and yes you do have people misusing and abusing the forum on both sides as there are people who are here trying to convert and deconvert people to and from religion

I find your assumption that all atheists are here to mock religion false. That is no more true than saying that all Christians are here to tell atheists and agnostics that they are going to hell.

I'm not usually mocking. I might once in a while, but usually I'm very serious about the real danger that faith poses. This topic is CERTAINLY not one to be taken lightly.

Reported.........reporting all Christians who question anything about atheists or agnostics. The Christian bullies need to be put in their place and you need to realize that we can push back as well.

why do you single out all atheists and agnostics? It seems that some of the worst gets spewed by some of those who call themselves Christians.
