You can't. An unneutered Tom will always spray to mark his territory. And when he reaches sexual maturity, it will stink even more. Unneutered toms are also more aggressive. Sexual frustration causes them to unpredictably bite and attack.
If you decide to allow him outside, he will get into fights and get abscesses that will require expensive vet bills to fix. He will also probably contract FIV http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/brochures/fiv.html or FIP http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/brochures/fip.html
and spread it to other neighborhood cats. IF he doesn't get hit by a car as he's trying to get to a female, or shot, poisoned, or tortured by a human with a cruel streak who's fed up with listening to him yowl and scream as he fights over females. He'll also contribute to the horrible problem of unwanted pet overpopulation: http://www.snapus.org/site/PageServer?pagename=Overpopulation_facts
http://www.sniksnak.com/stop_s-n.html
If you get him neutered, he's much less likely to spray, and he'll be a much calmer, happier cat.

Don't anthorpomorphize your cat - he is not a human, and he has no intellectual attachment to his testicles. He will not miss them once they're gone. He'll just be a happier, calmer, safer, easier-to-live-with pet.

there really is no other choice in my mind but to neuter him.thou if he's been doing it for a while then the spraying may never fully stop, it will be much reduced.my motto with any pet is show you love your pet spay/neuter today.
as with the nike ad " JUST DO IT" best slogan ever by the way.

There is nothing you can do at all besides neutering and you should have already have done this if he is old enough to be spraying. Be responsible and neuter right away!

Restricting territory may do the trick, meaning keeping him confined to one room.
Comfort Zone helps to reduce or prevent marking. It's a plug-in diffuser that sends out a synthetic pheromone.
That's probably it. Neutering is the best solution.

There isn't a way. It's a male territorial marking thing that is instinctive. He must be neutered to stop it.

Sometimes it helps if there is no other animal scent in you house, the cat may feel that the other animals are takeing its territory , so your cat has to mark it.
