Because some people (me included) don't want to be on the computer forever and IMs take up a lot of time. I work all day on a computer and if I want to talk to someone, I don't want it to be by IM.

because it's annoying as helll when you're trying to post q's & a's and keep getting interrrupted by imbosils wanting to chat. if they wanted to chat they would pick up the phone!
