my exboyfriend of 2 years was very very depressed, he was put on antidpressants and now feels like there's this great big world out there..i feel that there is a good chance he is bipolar and was misdiagnosed as just being depressed...my dad is bipolar and he and my ex have very similar personality qualities and i have also heard that when misdiagnosed for depression, upon taking antidepressants it can switch you from depression to you're manic state if you are bipolar... before my ex and i broke up he tried convincing me that i was depressed..when really, i'm not at all..i've seen a physciatrist b/c of a court order from my parents divorce and they have told me i have no mental illnesses and that i am a very happy person..which i am, very much so...why would my ex try to tell me otherwise?

I think you're right: I think he is manic. It's very common for bipolars to be misdiagnosed when they are in the depressed phase & then when put on antidepressants, they can become manic, which it sounds like he is. Is it possible that you can go w/him to see his psychiatrist? If not, I would call their ofc & leave a msg about your concerns. If the doc is a good one, s/he will appreciate your involvement & take it seriously. As for why he is telling you that you are depressed, he is so manic that he thinks you should be that way too, I'd bet.

I'm Bipolar....maybe I'll help. Well, basically a good sign that he would have it is if he's really implsive and does extreme things all at once, which would be considered the manic state. And many times, the decisions made aren't well thought-out and are BAD decisions. I got arrested when I was in one of my manic states, so they are very powerful urges and impulses. Lots of times people with Bipolar are depressed because they constantly make bad decisions.
I take Depakote, which is an anti-seizure medicine, even though I've never had a seizure before. If your boyfriend is Bipolar, then he should take something like that because it would regulate his brain chemicals.

Hi! I have a mother, sister & brother-in-law with bipolar disorders. My mother, insists that everyone else she talks to is depressed too. It's called transference- placing your problem, or illness onto someone else, or projection- 'projecting your own feelings, emotions or motivations into another person without realizing your reaction is really more about you than it is about the other person'. See the source info. The problem is, that it's very difficult to point out to someone that is what is going on, as in my mom's case, because she is a pro at denial! I am a very happy person too, except when I talk to mom! Hope this helps!

I don't know. I don't know anyone who's bipolar and have admitted it.
