I don't know. But maybe it has to do with a large majority of the US have religious views of looking down on having sex in the first place?

I don't like answering questions like this because I have an odd view. I think something like what you're talking about should be left up to the person. I mean I've talked about it in government class, and even my instructor said that the government gets up in people's personal business too much. I mean there are safe ways like you mentioned and some women/men do not feel degraded or demoralized so why should we say they are degrading themselves. I could see if they were doing it because they needed the money like a mother with kids. She shouldn't have to resort to that for money to help her kids, the government or the people should step in there. But I mean people who like the money and want to do it should not be bothered. To me that's just judging someone and getting way too much into their business. I would do that personally, but I dont feel like it's my job or place to go around and judge everyone else because they may not think it's wrong. Someone mentioned that if we could tax them on all the money they make then it would be fair to everyone else that is taxed for working. I thought that made a lot sense, because would the government really care as long as they were getting some money out of it. I think it's like this in America because of mostly our religion and the government trying to get into everyone's personal lives. The way I see it is that God is supposed to judge people not me, and what I may think is wrong may be right to someone else. So I don't think I want to try and "play God" and go around making stuff illegal because I don't approve.

I dont think this is ture. May be when it comes to you! I don't know, but doesn't sound right. America is the most materealistic country in the world, people like money, both to earn and pay.
May be you just got involved with those relisious people! I don't know!

It's amazing to me also. People have no problems paying for a taxi ride, why not a salami ride?
Something else I'll bet you've noticed...Sex related crimes are lower in those other countries.
I think Americans are too taboo about the body. If you treat something as taboo, you'll have problems and denial of those problems.

I don't approve of it b/c it makes the person a sex object and nothing else... I don't really like the fact that it dehumanizes and objectifies the people who are trying to make money..

I think the reason that it is looked down upon it is because that it if very dangerous to to trust someone that you have only known for 2 min. that person cant hurt you very badly and how many times have you heard of prostitutes being murdered. It is very daNgerous and that is why i think that it is looked down upon in the usa.

Because in America (not to mention Canada, and most other industrialized nations), women are more than just sexual commodities. Wake up!
