Step1. Stop swearing at it.
Step2. Purchase a translation that's easy for you to read.
Step3. Pray to God in heaven to have an open heart first.
Step4. Read it. (Piece by piece)
Step5. Be blessed.

I always pray before reading and ask God for knowledge but, most of all wisdom. Hope this helps. God bless.

The Bible is God's Word to us.
It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Above all you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:20-21. (New International Version)

Breakdown of the Bible
36 human authors inspired entirely by God over 1600 years.
66 separate books
39 Old Testament
Genesis- The creation of the world, sin, flood and birth of Israel
Exodus to Esther- History of the nation of Israel
Job to Proverbs- the books of poetry and wisdom
Isaiah to Malachi- Prophecy or foretelling of the future events to come.
27 New Testament
Matthew to John - Four Gospels representing the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ now with all authority in Heaven and earth.
Acts- Birth of the Church (The Bride of Christ)
Romans to Jude - Letters to the Churches
Revelations - The ultimate future plans for: The Church, Heaven, Hell, a New Heaven and a New Earth.

Try reading it with a purpose. If some parts seem to be boring and difficult to read, skip over them and come back after you have increased in understanding. I understand the Bible a lot more than I did 10 years ago. I'm sure I'll have an even greater understanding of it in another 10 years. It takes time.

I too find it hard and tedious to read. The best way I find to read the bible is to study the bible by topics. This way you can gain an indept understanding on what God is trying to say. For example you may want to learn about what God has to say on marriage and divorce, so you could look up Jesus quotes on this issue as well other relevant information pertaining to this topic and peice it togeather like a puzzle.

I read the New KING JAMES STUDY BIBLE :D it has commentary as well as christian principles and maps, glossary etc. It has been a really effective tool for me to gain better perspective of the bible.

Because you know what the book is supposed to mean. You might feel forced into reading it.

If it were considered just a story, it might seem better.

Old Testament: Miracles, Persecuted people rising above their masters, Slayings, Plagues, Sacrifices, Idols and Pagans.... oh my

New Testament: One hero(Jesus) being brave, standing for what he believes in, throwing down in a temple for blaspheming God, dieing and sacrificing for the people, yet becoming triumphant and rising again...

Seriously, it has all of the stuff of a major motion picture blockbuster... but it is a believable story for MANY, MANY people.

I don't wish to offend. I'm just saying, if you DID look at the story, as just a story, and not a story thrust upon you, or a book thrust upon you as something you MUST believe.... it becomes much more interesting and even potentially exciting... if you think about it.

It might be the version you are reading New American is more in our English than the King's English. You might look into a Bible study at your church or find books on one book at a time. You might want to start with the Gospel of John. If you go to amazon.com you will find many books that can take you chapter by chapter. Either way your not alone.
Also you should always say a prayer before you begin : Holy Spirit enlighten my spirit and rekindle in me the fire of thy Divine Love. Amen.

Well first of all it was written a long time ago, and so the language and culture is much different then what you are used to. You can try an "easier version" of it, but if it is the Word of God, then changing the wording may change the actual meanings. You just have to take your time, and think about the context of the words as well as the meaning of the words. Be patient. Good luck!

Maybe it is because you are not using the right method, the first thing you need to do is to be at peace within and pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance before reading the Bible, and even then do not try to read too much at a time.

It is a real challenge to get started. Begin with the gospel of John, then read the "New Testament", skipping hard spots. Get a bible study course from the Adventist church. That will mostly steer you right, though there is some error in it. (The Creator's name was YHVH and the Messiah's name was -and is- YAHOSHUA-- SDA to the contrary notwithstanding) Ask YHVH to guide you, He wants to help!
