I believe that everyone has agency to choose what they will, but it's not free because no matter what we choose there are consequences whether it be a good consequence or a bad one, and no matter what our beliefs are we all have a will to choose.

Yes, free will is a given. The source of that free will is what is being debated. That is why believers praise God for free will. We feel that God made this world and this life possible, including the state of existence that we currently are in, which includes free will.

A friend of mine had confusion about it: she said you don't get free will until you are 18.

Agree totally.

To me, it is totally logical that if-and-when a creator set the cosmos in motion, he/she also set in motion all the laws of physics and probability. I believe that we are all (somewhat) in control of our own future. We make choices and plans, in spite of a billion random things that could affect our plans, for good or ill.

The existence of radical elements does not negate the possibility of making choices and plans.

Yeah.... it's true. Why do people constantly praise God for free will? Are they implying that we'd be held back by some anti-free force if God didn't exist?

I totally agree, many people have gone to their deaths because they would not give up their free will to dictatorships and oppressive regimes.

Free will or God? They clash too much so you can't have both
