I don't know how else to explain this, but we've noticed when walking our dog that most strangers smile at him, pet him, cross the street to see him and adore him...yet almost anytime we pass anyone with an asian persuasion they give him a wide gerth, try to avoid eye contact with the dog, and rarely even acknowledge his presence?

Our dog is a really cute boxer/pomimo (pomeranian/eskimo) cross and only 4 months old, not mean spirited and instantly playful with zero signs of aggression. People, kids, other dogs all get along with him...except...with all due respect...asians.

At first I thought I was making it up. But after weeks of this type of thing happening I am really starting to wonder.

Can anyone shed light on this? I know some people just aren't dog people, but I am a bit surprised.

I can't stress enough how I do not wish to convey any racial bias whatsoever. Yjis is just an observation for which I am seeking insight.

It's not your dog.The problem is that they are from countries where many loose dogs roam and with or without disease. These would be unpredictable in their behavior and it is a habit Asian people have acquired from either having lived there or one inbred into their culture and is in a sense a 'safety first' precaution.
They haven't yet grasped that our dogs are in the main healthy and trained.
By the way-it happens to us too. They're just not doggy people

I don't think we Americans realize how strange our closeness to our pet dogs looks to people from other countries. People in many other countries do not keep dogs inside because animals live outside and people live inside and that is just the way it is. The the other folks are right, in that many countries have packs of dogs that run wild and many dogs carry diseases and are not considered clean animals.

I was in Hong Kong once and they had dog on the menu of a fairly fancy restaurant. Maybe they don't like to be emotional about a potential meal? I'm guessing here....

Orientals are strange. Maybe it's because they eat them or their home-countries have problems with illnesses or dog packs roaming or something like that.
