I have a JVC KD-G420 cd player in my car with 2 Polk 6x9 three ways in the rear and 2 Polk 4x6 two ways in the front. Whenever i turn my music up to a certain point (not very loud)(depending the song/amount of bass, etc.) my stereo will turn off then turn back on until i turn it down. what could be the problem ive never seen this before.

You either have a defective product or a wire crossed or an open wire touching metal. You do not need an amp, it will make it louder but it will not solve the problem of the head unit shorting out. Good Luck!

Those speakers are definitely too powerful for a head unit. You should definitely get a 4-channel amp to power those bad boys. You can actually damage your speakers if you're trying to drive them with a severely underpowered amplifier. The distortion caused by an amplifier straining itself is really quite bad for speakers.

It's entirely possible that your head unit is shutting down because it has a built in safety measure to prevent it from being over-exerted. The factory stereo in my old car used to do that when I cranked it with a bass heavy CD.

Also, Polk speakers are great. I love mine.

Yes an amp will help. Never heard of Polk speakers though. But, get yourself an amp because right now you are using to much power.

yes. and some new speakers as well, only cause i think Polk sucks. but a amp will solve your problem. whats happening is your HU cant provide enough power for your speakers, and shuts itself down so it wont fry.
