I agree, how many jobs have you applied to where prayer was a requirement? None that I have applied to and I have applied to many jobs. Employers ask for math skills, computer skills, english skills, customer service, but no prayers. So why should prayers be a must in school. If you want your kids to pray, do it before or after school or in church. School is a place to learn skills for life.
Many claim that having prayers in schools will prevent killings. There was an incident not too long ago where either A student or a group of students went into a school with guns, walked up to students and said "Do you believe in God?" If they said "Yes" they shot and killed them. How is this preventing school killings? If kids are going to stop this violence, its not going to be because of prayers being brought back into school.
Also if they ARE going to allow prayers in school, what kind of prayers are they going to be? Christian? Jewish? Buddhist? Wiccan? Who is going to decide this? If you choose one form of prayer, then how will you accomidate those who don't believe in that faith???

Well, this depends on perspective. Christians don't want required prayer in school, they just want their kids to be permitted to pray in school. For a Christian, every job requires experience in prayer, because they are to do all things as if unto the Lord. So for a Christian, prayer is a very important part of every aspect of their life. For people to tell Christians that there are places they can't pray is 1) a very severe infraction against the 1st, and 2) a thing that we can't submit to.
Education is very important to Christians, and they don't intend for prayer to be used to get out of classwork, because that would not be honoring to God, but Christians need to pray like they need air.

The premise and voice for bringing prayer back to school is that it may be the saving grace for our society. Sure you may want to hire an educated individual for your company, but would you also want a dishonest one? I am of the belief that praying alone will not make you pure and sanctified, and it will not make you an honest, moral citizen; it may however instill in students a little goodness that is overlooked at home. I feel that without prayer in schools we have no hope for a moral society. We certainly can't expect parents to instill good values in their children when they can't even help them complete their homework. When prayer was taken out of schools the incidence of teenage pregnancies increased, the drop-out rate increased, not to mention drug usage and violence all increased (you gonna hire them?).

I want prayer in schools because I think we should be thankful to god that we have schools and have the ability to learn. I also want god to bless my efforts to learn and to become a useful citizen. Also, I want to conduct myself in a moral way that is consistent with god's requirements. Further, I want to publicly acknowledge that I am a created creature. Even if i get good marks, I am to remain humble because god is my creator. Further, the bible tells me to glorify God is the purpose of my life so i want to be able to glorify him (via prayer) all the days of my life in whatever setting I find myself.
However, as you rightly say, I can be praying whether there is prayer in the school or not, and if people don't want anything to do with God, then he won't have anything to do with them. So, although I "want" prayer in the schools I don't have a sense of urgency about the matter. It's just another indication of our country going down the drain. If it's no big deal to you, then o.k. Hasta lavista.

Their bible tells them to pray in private. And school prayer was not taken out of the schools. Kids can pray on their OWN time.

Yes. How much time do you want teachers to waste telling kids not to pray? If you want them to learn to read, why not let them read the Bible? Scared of it?
Where did you get the idea that kids who pray are stupid? They are usually much better behaved than heathen kids, and this helps teachers keep order in class, without which no learning is possible, except for the occasional self-taught courses in violence and sex education...

What possible harm would it entail for children to have some short prayer in school? having said this though it is the duty of parents to pray with their children and not rely on schools to do it for them.

Learning what? Man made Material so that we can be caught up with the laws of the world and Man. I think that children should be able to publicly praise the lord in school and not only behind closed doors.
