That's because Satan designed vodka. Vodka is from Russia, and the Soviet Union is an atheistic state. Coincidence?

lol.

Actually I always thought that the IDers concentrate on the wrong things. The eye, bacterial flagellum etc can all be explained by adaptive benefit to the animal concerned.

But consider the barley. Barley, when malted, has two sugar creating enzymes. One produces readily fermented sugars that result in alcohol. The other produces slowly fermenting sugars that result in "body". Now at 60c the first switches on. The second PROGESSIVELY switches on as you raise the mash temperature and the first progressively switches off. So you can exactly control the level of alcohol v body in your beer.

Consider the hop: the hop adds bitterness and flavour to the beer. You have to boil hops for an hour and a half to extract the bitterness and this boiling destroys the flavour. To get flavour you add hops late in the boil, these add flavour but no bitterness. Sounds inconvenient? Not at all - what it means is you can precisely and independantly set the amount of bitterness and flavour in the beer.

These features of the barley and hop are stunningly useful so its obvious that they were intelligently designed to give us beer!

Ben Franklin was right:

"Beer is the proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy"

So in your incredible intellect you say a designer should have designed man to be immune to alcohol? Would that then make it like water? Bet Miller High Life loves your ideas. Get a snow day from school today?

Do you mean of the product or of human beings, no conforming to intelligent design ? The excess of anything is harmful, even drinking water to excess can kill you. As for mankind, he has free will and it depends on how he uses this faculty. I do not really know the point you are trying to make !

Too much of just about anything can kill us. Not very intelligent people, eh?

Whatever. Alcohol does not exist in great quantities in a "natural state," although things like opium poppies do...

One could say that the "design" was "intelligent," but that our use of it was something less....

Ooooh but I'm smarter than the design... I don't drink alcohol!

Never liked the stuff. I'm an incredibly picky eater and I hate nausea. 2 strikes already! Plus I'm afraid of being out of my right mind.

Too much WATER can kill us. Tell me thats not a terrible design!

Although, I guess one could argue that too much of ANYTHING isnt a good thing, right?

Dear Mr. Godzilla,
Whatever your point may be, I'm sure we both agree that alcohol is a design of MAN.
As well, alcohol in moderation, can be a fine thing.
Excess is also MAN'S doing.
No?
