value = what someone is prepared to pay for it
put it on ebay to see if anyone would buy it and that will give you an indication to what its worth
no badness intended but these things are often worth more in sentimental value to whoever owns it than monetary value

You could get in touch with museums such as Manchesters Imperial War Museum or maybe the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. You could also try Angels in London which is a costume hire place for films etc they might be able to help or know of someone else who could.
