Im driving along fine and I slow down to make a turn or just slow for a stop light and it just quits on me then I start it up and the rpm is down and have to keep tapping the gas pedal to get it to keep runniing It has done this a couple of times and its scarey when the breaks and power steering just go off like that .

Did you ever speed over a speed bump in the road or anything else of the sort? Golfs tend to do that after whacking the underneath of the car!

You might have a bad airflow meter. Extremely common for the mk4 golf / jetta. If you have epc and abs those lights may come and go as well. That car's major systems depend on the airflow meter's output. Sometimes it won't even turn the engine light on.

Check and make sure you don't have a disconnected or cracked vacuum line anywhere. Check air filter and if fuel filter is original you may want to replace it. Also check operation of the idle air control unit. If you have a check engine light on have it scanned for trouble codes. good luck

I had a Jetta a while ago and it did that because the O2 sensor (oxygen sensor) was broken. So i would check that.
