...braces = an oral appliance consisting generally of wires or bands, used to correct misalignment of the teeth and jaws by exerting pressure on the teeth and their supporting structures.

I have some teeth that are not straight, on the front part of my lower jaw (or what is called the mandible...). Can they be made to stay in a straight way? There are 2 teeth just in front...

But take in consideration, I'm 23 years old. Can my teeth be made straight, taking into consideration the fact that the mandible is the hardest bone of all the bones of the human body (I heard this thing somewhere, but I forgot where and when, exactly...)...?

My question is about the hardness of the lower jaw... At my age of 23, is my lower jaw still soft enough so that it can be molded and my teeth be made straight?
Don't tell me other things...
Thank you.

Thank you for all your answers... only now I'm having second thoughts if it lasts even 3, or 4 years... that's bad...

I've known people in their 40's who've gotten braces and their teeth have been stragihted. The adolescent years and pre-adolsescne in some cases are most ideal to correct the problem early on so no other problems will develop.

I had problems with my front teeth in my lower jaw. I had to wear braces for three years on my lower teeth and they barley moved during that time. (The major problems were corrected, I had two teeth that criss-crossed eachother) The didn't completly straighten, but in order to do-so I'd have had to have surgury) You'll have to talk to an orthodonist and get a judgement on the conidtion of your teeth.

Braces correct the problem by loosening your teeth and then moving them. After braces the retainer lets them grow back into the bone. So you can have braces at virtually any age.

I am 25 now going on 26 and I got my braces about 2 years ago and still wearing them. They are coming off in another month or two. My bottom front teeth were crooked due to the fact that I don't have enough room in my mouth. They are straight now. So if you ask me you can still get braces even at that age. I know of some people who got braces when they were 35+. I believe the older you get the longer you would have to wear them. But believe me it is well worth it. If you are still unsure just go in and talk to orthodontis it's usually free. Good luck.

Holly what your peers feel will not topic if you wish to have braces and do not get them it might intent a few terrible ache to the overlapping tooth as you grow older. Your roots begin bumping in combination and boy do I take into account that ache!!!!!! Don't overlook your tooth. Here's my advocate: Do no longer do the transparent!! Why? The transparent is apparent and pretty much invisible however they're very cumbersome and will also be visible baring for your lips whilst you mouth is near. I have the steady steel braces with silver bands, they combination with the steel they usually slightly bulge! Good success!

I got braces at the age of 27. The biggest difference between doing as an adult vs child, is that as a child, some appliances can be used to enlarge or change the shape of the mouth in order to create room. As an adult, if that is needed, surgery may be needed in order to create room. My particular case planned for 2 surgeries . . one to create space in my upper palate, and one to reduce the projection of my lower. Fortunately, I only needed the 1st one as it corrected both of my problems. I never regret the surgeries or the process of braces- I am quite happy with my smile.
