Leviticus 19: 17-18: Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke [reason with] thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him. Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord.
Damning gay people to hell isn't very loving...why is it that many Christians like to pick and choose the Biblical teachings to follow?
We are all children of God, not just the Christians, you know. You love yourself enough to engage in a commited relationship...so you should love your neighbor enough so they may also engage in a commited relationship, no? As a good Christian you should not take rights for yourself that your neighbor is not allowed...and you definetly should not deny these rights to your "neighbor".
I'm not gay, and I am a Christian, I just know many good gay people whom society is alienating for no GOOD reason save for biblical manipulation.

Actually, if God "created" all of us as many say..then, yes, we are ALL children of GOD.

I do read my Bible, I guess I tend to concentrate on what I feel that religion should breed in people, love, tolerance, acceptance. If you hate evil than you should hate the anger that gays make you feel...one of the 7 deadly sins, ya know.

Oh, I see Randy...you are choosing to read that part of the Bible and ignoring the other parts...I see. Warn em, and move on...you don't have to do much else than that then...your soul is saved, whatever. Let salvation be a choice, not coercion. I know my intentions are good b/c I am condoning tolerance as opposed to hate...and I know God blesses me for it, amen!

properly, greater or much less you're ultimate. yet having a sturdy father, a foul father, or no father in any respect, maximum probable has little or no concerning homosexuality. no longer that i'm wishing it or no longer wishing it on your little ones, yet whilst one seems to be gay you need to not blame your parenting or the youngster. And mutually as I do have self belief in God and that He does not make blunders, we do and we did. we're not to any extent further the appropriate creations he made. IF homosexuality isn't organic, it is not unavoidably that God did it to them, in trouble-free terms to prohibit them from it. it may basically as definitely be a genetic mutation, an factor consequence of actually some products we at the instant are putting in our meals and air and water and soil, etc. or perchance God did make gay human beings as they are, and we extra the banning to the Bible (and different religious texts) without God's approval. or perchance we better. i've got not got self belief it, whether it is not any longer outdoors the realm of possibility. perchance that's between the evolutionary features we better. the factor is, we actually do no longer totally comprehend this occasion yet, so perchance all of us could lay off judgement.

God said we should love our neighbours and in hating gays we are going against what HE said.
God said flee from sin and resist the devil.
You say you're a christian - the bible talks about Sodom and Gommorrah - there were gays and lesbians there and what happened?
The wrath of God fell upon in the form of burning sulphur
so obviously being Gay is a sin.
Gayness is caused by a spirit not of God
Christians through the word of God, prayer, showing love and understanding and counselling should lead gay people to deliverance from their belief that they were born that way, they are that way etc.

There is alot of ignorance.I am Christian, I don't hate them at all. I even have a hard time with the whole adoption issue. (they make loving parents). Now is it Morally right? Not in MY beliefs. (Example Sadam and Gamorrah) Does't mean I hate them or judge them. The bilble says to hold the ones you love ACCOUNTABLE, NOT JUDGE AND HATE. There is a very fine line between judging and holding someone accountable. Alot of people cross it. Christianity isn't about hatred or pregudice, it's about LOVE and having kindness in your heart. Jesus didn't go out yelling and screaming at the prostitues, he spoke to them in a loving way. People will never understand that without having a gentle spirit, you will never get the point across. Satan is all over and wants Christians to look evil to the rest of the world. Unfortunately it's working. Very sad.

Good question. I am straight, married and I have gay/lesbian friends. And the only reason why they are my friends is because they respect me as I respect them.
Some Christians are not hateful of gay people, but it is a fact that most are, because their religious leaders that preach "love" deliver "sword" to those who believe differently than them. And the sheeps play follow the leader to the slaughter house.

It's because Christianity is basically a crutch for some weakminded people to feel good about themselves and their lives by saying to themselves "look, we're being good and you're not, so you should be like us".
These people don't feel good about themselves unless they feel assured that everyone views life like them, because the herd confirms to them that they're "right". It's the herd mentality.
It's a way of absolving oneself from having to make difficult moral decisions in life and change one's viewpoint when it's wrong. For instance, with gays...even if you don't personally agree with their lifestyle and wouldn't practice it yourself, you have to admit to yourself that homosexuality exists and will continue to exist. And admitting that to yourself doesn't actually harm you in any way... it's just an admission, nothing more. So who is harmed by allowing equality for gays and promoting monogamous relationships among gay couples?
Nobody. So Christians have to fall back on the old "God is harmed by gays" argument and continue to condemn them. Never mind that if God is all-powerful as Christianity claims, then he shouldn't give a flip what gays do as long as they aren't actually harming anyone else. If God IS all-powerful, nothing gays could do would harm HIM after all, so as long as gays aren't hurting anyone else he shouldn't care.
It would also be silly to argue that "God is harmed because he's not being loved or respected by humans doing what he says they should do". That's not love or respect, that's CONTROL. No human relationship would be characterized as loving if one of the parties demanded that the other party believe a certain thing or be punished, in spite of good arguments supporting the contrary belief. That's a psychologically abusive relationship, not a loving one.
Think of all the harm that extending gays equal rights would PREVENT. By encouraging monogamy it would reduce promiscuity and thereby reduce STDS, reducing the healthcare burdens society incurs. By discouraging bigotry it would reduce self-destructive behavior among gays and thereby reduce the societal cost. Yes, there is a societal cost...anytime a gay person commits suicide, society incurs a cost of replacing what that person was contributing to society in his/her productiveness by having to train someone else to do it, someone who may or may not be as good as the gay person. Anytime a gay person marries a straight person to "hide" his/her sexuality because of societal bigotry there is a societal cost...when the marriage blows up, it hurts the spouse and family, and society loses productivity from the emotionally affected parties, not to mention the increased healthcare costs from depression, etc.
The costs of this bigotry are borne by everyone in the form of increased health insurance rates and increased product costs. Yes, whenever a company has to incur additional training costs because they lose a productive employee's contribution due to suicide, depression, relocation because of divorce when the gay spouse comes out, etc., their production costs increase. And this "bigotry cost" is passed along to everyone through higher prices.
If it weren't for the societal bigotry against gays which is in large part reinforced by Christianity, these losses to productivity could be channeled into productive gains for society. But again, letting go of the bigotry would mean changing, and unfortunately many Christians are just too selfish to do that.

No, not everyone is a children of God only those who accept Christ become his adopted sons and daughters. And I have nothing against the gays.
-----
"Actually, if God "created" all of us as many say..then, yes, we are ALL children of GOD."
Do you honestly believe people who mock and curse God are his children? He said those who walk in darkness are not His. And we are a result of procreation, so God didn't actually hand make us.

Last Friday night, a friend of mine (who claims to be a very devout Christian) called me and asked if I wanted to go to dinner. We did. As dinner progressed, she began to sling around a gay slur (starts with "F", rhymes with the word 'maggot') around very liberally. After the second time, I asked her to stop, because it was a horrible word.
This woman works in a lawyer's office. She also appends the word "jew" to their description every chance she gets, as if it was a slur.
For what it's worth, this is a 48-year old black woman I am describing. Perhaps naively, I thought that a black person would best understand what it is like to be discriminated against, and would combat it in her everyday speech. What she did for me was help to validate my lack of belief in any deity, reinforce my loathing for organized religion, and deepened my belief that humans, regardless of age, creed, race, religious choice, etc., suck.

We don't damn anyone to hell, God does that. The Bible says that it is not very loving to lie to people and say that they are OK, when they are in reality sinning and making God angry.
It is not very loving to let someone walk blindly off of a cliff without at least a fair warning.
And why do you think that we hate people simply because we disagree? I think that it is YOU who isn't being very loving, because you are deliberately creating miss-understanding about the Christian message and falsely branding us as haters. You do not know anyone's true motives but your own.
The Bible pronouncs a curse upon anyone who tells sinners that they are just fine the way that they are, when God thinks that they are not.
So we are simply repeating the truth.
The real question is, what are you trying to do?
Are you trying to save anyone, or just slandering people whose beliefs are different than yours?
-------------------------------------------------
"Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. When I say to the wicked, 'O wicked man, you will surely die,' and you do not speak out to dissuade him from his ways, that wicked man will die for his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood. But if you do warn the wicked man to turn from his ways and he does not do so, he will die for his sin, but you will have saved yourself.
"Son of man, say to the house of Israel, 'This is what you are saying: "Our offenses and sins weigh us down, and we are wasting away because of them. How then can we live?" ' Say to them, 'As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, O house of Israel?'
~Ezekiel 33:7-11 (NIV)

So I only choose to read certain parts? With all due respect, it seems like you are doing the same thing, since you only quoted one sentence (at least I copied a whole paragraph). We could go back and forth on this all day.
I think that the reality of this is that you wish to label people as "haters" simply because they believe differently than you. This is known as an "ad hominem" argument, and it imples that you are trying to make up for a weak argument by personally attacking your opponent's character instead of the logic of his position. It is a dirty trick, dear.
----------------------------------------
...Ad hominem is one of the best known of the logical fallacies usually enumerated in introductory logic and critical thinking textbooks. Both the fallacy itself, and accusations of having committed it, are often brandished in actual discourse (see also Argument from fallacy). As a technique of rhetoric, it is powerful and used often, despite its inherent incorrectness, because of the natural inclination of the human brain to recognize patterns.
In contrast, an argument that instead relies (fallaciously) on the positive aspects of the person arguing the case is known as appeal to authority....
