I'm not exactly sure what "understanding" unbelievers are looking for. You have a right to be whoever you want, what ever you want and however you want. But if you wish to be told that the things you do that goes against biblical principal is okay, your never going to get it.
But I can agree to disagree. I have no problem with that.
Oh, here's a tip- the next time a Christian person tells you about the gospel of Christ just gently tell them that you know their testimony is given out of obedience to Christ and concern for your soul, but you choose not to convert and if Christ is in fact real they should just pray for your salvation then walk away. What else can they say and YOU can take credit for starting a trend of "more understanding".

As an atheist, I can tell you that if Christians did show more understanding, and more respect for me as a human being who is decent and good, then I would be more open to listening to what you might have to say. I'm not against understanding what it is that other people believe, even if I don't believe it myself. I do not disrespect the beliefs of others. I DO expect, though, that if I say I don't wish to discuss it further, then you will respect that. When you show respect, you get respect. If someone starts telling me that I have no morals, and no values, and deserve to burn in Hell for all eternity--not because of anything I've DONE, but simply because I don't believe the same things they believe, then they will get the same amount of disrespect from me.

Amen Proverbs 15:1 "A gentle answer turns away wrath but a harsh word stirs up anger- We are to preach the good news in love- share the gospel of Jesus Christ with all, and with great patience and instruction from God.

Ephesians 4:15
Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.

Psalm 40:10
I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and salvation. I do not conceal your love and your truth from the great assembly.

I'm trying to figure out what you're asking. Do you mean, " Should Christian people show more understanding to unbelievers ( non-believers )? I would say that if they listened to non-believers, they might become non-believers too.
Just what are we supposed to receive ? Anything is possible.

It wont make me become a christian, but it will make me put down my guard a little, then agian, if i didnt leave it up all the time, i would be vulnerable to christianity. I think its best if i follow the advice of a wise sage friend of mine: NEVER trust a religion whose ultimant goal is the end of the world.

Regardless of how I am treated, I still won't believe in God without a direct experience of God. The behavior of his followers make no difference to me.

If the hateful zealots acted better I'd probably find less to dislike about them and their faith system. The fire and brimstone, creationist variety strike me as being grade A whack jobs who need therapy and LOTS of valium.

Absolutely. We will never get anywhere with unbelievers spreading an angry Gospel. We also should respect them enough that if they do not want to hear the Gospel, we will not beat them over the head with it.

I totally agree with you, Jesus was so compassionate with people no matter what thier state in life and we must be more like Him to set the prisoner free and bind up the broken-hearted.

No, I'm an atheist and I would like if people didn't try and convert me. I'm not going to change my beliefs because your nicer but it would make the world much nicer. I try and be considerate as an Atheist, unless I'm provoked.
