I have seen some up to 50% strength for sale on ebay, do it yourself kits, it's a little scary to think of doing this on my own, though... what is a SAFE amount to use that will not cause the burning and extreme peeling of a peel, but still does some good for the skin?

I am a Beauty Therapist so of course I am going to suggest that you have a peel done professionally because that way good quality professional only products are being used. I perform my own Glycolic Peels at home and my professional only products are not as strong as what you have mentioned.

I know that peels can be expensive so a great option is to have a treatment of peels done eg: A Glycolic facial once a week for 4 weeks or even up to 6 weeks
After this time you should then purchase a day cream which contains small amounts of Glycolic Acid, then each day that you apply your cream your skin will be rejuvenating itself and reducing acne, scarring etc.

If you still want to have the peels for an extra boost then have them done once every 4-6 weeks for maintenance

If you do choose to purchase a cream containing Glycolic Acid then ensure that you apply a sunscreen over the top of it as minimal sunlight combined with the Glycolic can burn, dry and damage your skin

I hope this has helped you

Generally consumer chemical peels have an concentration of 10% or less of the active agent - in this case glycolic acid - and a pH of 3.5 or more. A lower ph indicates higher acidity.

Professional chemical peel agents usually have a concentration of 20% - 30% acid.

Also each product is supposed to carry a label warning that the product causes increased sensitivity to the sun and requiring the use of a sunscreen.

Stay away from any product not made for consumer use. An improper peel can cause permanent scarring and/or skin blotchiness.

Maybe it's because you've been indoors all week. Try using Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Body Moisturiser. Great for dry and peely skin, and you can keep using it after your face stops peeling too! It's worked for me and hopefully it does for you too. Have fun at Prom!
