So many updates files Windows is taking up 4.2 gigabits...any way to delete or a software program to take some of the bull out

Yes, delete the patch uninstall files.

You can also get CCleaner, which will help delete some of the garbage Microsoft Windows leaves behind.

1. Open My Computer C:/ Properties.
2. Disk Clean up.
3. Select More Options.
4. Select System Restore .
B Repeat for other directories.
C. Yes :Ccleaner is for regular cleaning up.

except the first folder $hf_mig$
.If your folders are hidden
explorer/tools/folder options,: select show hidden files
G. You can delete the text files for the updates.

H. Do not try reinstall, as you have to Update allover again.

C:/windows cannnot be 4.2Gb. I think you are
reporting C:/ with program files etc.
MY XP Pro SP1 1.95Gb files 13884 folders.952
Now downloading SP2 115 MB.

Hmm, a complete reinstall of XP would be the cleanest, but if you have files you can't back up, or programs you can't reinstall, then I would recommend using Ccleaner. Link is provided, you can clean out alot of garbage, don't forget to clean the registry also. It is a great program, and it's shareware.
