They are called TANUKI, not Tauki and they are not Chinese ( they were imported to china and some got loose and went wild but they are originally are japanese) they are Japanese and live in the Amur River lowlands. They belong to the Candid family but they are not DOGS or FOXES. They are a real animal and they are a cousin to the dog. They were used for furs and food. They are not good pets and are not available in the exotic pet trade yet in america. You may be able to get them on the Black Market Pet Trades but they dont make good pets and they are rare and I suppose you would be having to pay a very large sum of money. They are not being widely domesticated yet so you would only be able to get a 1rst or 2nd generation and they would be close to keeping a Hyena in your house. NOT A GOOD IDEA.

That is a great question. Why on earth would you want to have that as a pet though?

from what i understand, they are very shy and timid and are not domesticated. i'd say you probably cannot have a pet raccoon dog.
