My chi loves those obnoxious squeaky toys. I get them at PetSmart because I thought they would last longer, but still they only last a week.
The ones I get at WalMart last a couple of days and he has ripped out the squeaker or torn a hole in it so it does not work.
My big dogs don't like the squeaky toys so it is just the chi. Who would dream that a 2 pound dog could be so destructive! I did find at PetSmart replacement squeakers and that helps. I get him a stuffed squeaky toy and replace the squeaker when he rips it out.
I know that in my case I have to find softer toys that are smaller because he is so tiny. This means that I have to compromise when it comes to longevity.
On the other hand, I get my bully and pitt the "bully sticks" that are supposed to last a long time and they last about 5 minutes.
Sometimes I think it is just a way for the pet supply companies to keep making money off of you by giving dog toys a short "play life." You know, like the blender that blows up the day after the warranty ends...

I've a four month old American Bulldog and a four 12 months historical Pit Bull. Even though my AB remains to be a dog she too destroys tennis balls. She has a rope toy that she has had in view that we bought her ( at lower than 2 months historic) and a "Kong Like" toy that's red that she loves. She has a pair squeaky toys too which might be small but she does not tear them up.. Oh and a rubber fowl that we got her from Walmart ( she has additionally had this considering that we got her). Truthfully she loves all toys, however tennis balls and stuffed animals in no way last. My Pit Bull however has in no way preferred to play with toys.. At the same time as a dog so I just get him the gigantic pork bones from the pet retailer.. They're very messy although. They have a variety of specific toys which might be made from a hard rubber so that you would are trying extraordinary ones. In the event you are not able to spend a lot of money or would choose to not due to the fact he destroys them i would just purchase the low priced toys from Walmart so its no longer a large waste. Hope it helped a little bit. What style of dog do you may have?

First off Kongs do not last that long. My dog will chew through anything in a day or two. Plus, she will actually eat the rubber toys. The only thing I have found to work longer is the raw hyde chews. I buy the really big ones so she can't chew it up in a day. Large dogs have stronger jaws, and small toys are just not enough for them. My dog isn't even that big, only 50 pounds and she can chew anything to peices in an hour. Oh and don't give your dog worn out shoes (suggested by someone on here). That will just teach him it's ok to chew on any shoe. It will confuse him.

Every toy is different because every dog is different. Some dogs just destroy everything they can get their mouths around. The one toy that lasted the longest when I worked at the pet store was the black rubber tires and the toys made out of old fire hoses. Black Kongs last longer than the red ones if your dog likes those.
There is also the issue of squeeky toys. Do dogs destroy them to make them stop squeeking or do they destroy them because they like the sound??? Who knows - we can't ask them.
If you are looking for something for your dog to chew on, buy him a big knuckle bone. It's cartilage so they can digest the pieces they break off.

That depends on your dog, and the toy itself. Some breeds are considered "strong" chewers and can destroy some toys in a matter of minutes/hours. Some toys are made for stronger chewers. I have an average chewer and his "Kong" lasts about a year and other chew toys about that long, but "cheap" toys you might find at the Dollar Store may only last a day or less.

Rather than the plastic toys you need to buy much stronger rubber ones i.e. heavy duty pulls or rope ones. Hard balls are another option as who says the toys have to be for dogs as long as you are sensible and make sure they can not be a danger to the dog. An Alsatian would probably enjoy a real football and such like.

Get a kong, then go on the web site and get the different recipies for stuff to stuff it with. Kongs last a long time. Nylabones last too. Rope toys do better than stuffed toys. If you have a stuffed toy that is lasting 10 mins, you have it good. My dog "kills" any stuffed toy IMMEDIATELY. Not good when he gets ahold of my daughters favorite stuffed bear!!!

tell me about it! one of mine is an Alsation and we once spent an absolute fortune on those "indestructable" gems only for it to last all of 10 mins. dont bother, instead get some rawhide chews and let him have them every day. I just get the cheap toys and let him have his 10 mins of fun. he also tends to like destroying the empty toilet rolls just as much anyway!

I have a golden retriever and he demolishes them immediately. Some less than 10 minutes also. The only one that has lasted for us is the KONG. It's very durable and you can stick treats inside where he plays for hours trying to get it out. Make sure you get the right size for your dog. They come in different sizes.
