"Bless the Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts. Only if this song applies. No "I love you's", but talks about how his past experiences have led him to her, and while he may have been hurt in the past, but without that, he would not have been pointed in the direction of the one he is with now. Pretty song, not too terribly sappy. Found in the Country Music section (current country - not the old style). I think your idea is very romantic and your girlfriend is sure to be really touched by this. Good job!
