I want to turn off my PC either on desired time, (like 1am) or after some time interval, like "after 30 minutes". How can I do that?
Is there any (ofcourse, free) software available?

Take a look at the "How to Schedule Tasks in Windows XP" (link below). You could also use the "AT" command from an MS DOS prompt. If you are using a Linux/UNIX system, look up the manual pages on "cron".

These options are useful for scheduling tasks at a particular time but not as useful for schedule after "X" time. You might want to look at setting up your PowerSave options (MS Windows...not sure about the Mac or Linux, and I always leave my UNIX system running 24/7).
