I'm thinking of signing up for some cake decorating classes where you can become certified. It costs about $70 a class, but supplies are included. After watching Ace of Cakes on the Food Network channel, I think i've decided I want to do this as a sideline for extra money with my free time, it looks like a lot of fun, and you get to make other people happy with what you make. My question to you is would you do it at this cost for the reasons stated above? Why or why not? Thanks!

I too have taken cake decorating classes and enjoyed them very much. Mine were through Wilton, and although I did "pass" the class, there was no certification. My classes were less expensive, perhaps the certification aspect means that the class is more intense? Regardless, learning to do this is something you can use over and over, and allows you to use your creativity! I know someone that makes cakes for birthdays, weddings, showers, etc.- she's always in demand. I think it would be worth it.

It is going to take more that one class to be able to make the cakes they do on Ace of Cakes. It is a good start. But you need years of experience. I would see if they offered a class at a community college near by that has a culinary program.

Good luck. It is fun but time consuming.

Try & uncover a nearby sugarcraft store, they are going to most of the time be in a position to position you in contact with nearby categories, a few even furnish categories at the premises. My nearby hobbycraft has a noticeboard for this variety of factor as good. What subject are you in?
