Dogs are our family and should be treated like a family member. Even though I don't go to the extent that you go to on my dog's birthday, I still think it is something fun to do and not crazy in the least bit.
On my dog's birthday, I buy her something new like a chew bone or a toy and give her some cooked meat (chicken, pork, beef), usually whatever we are having for dinner. I also say "Happy Birthday" to her and give her extra pats and kisses.
I wouldn't go as far as handing out sirloin steaks though...have you considered skipping the extravagent foods and just having a dog party where all the dogs could play in the backyard? You could donate the money spent on sirloin steaks to your local humane shelter in her name instead. That would be a really nice gift..
Have fun with your pampered pooch :)

You aren't crazy....its a new age thing...doggie bdays. So many people and places are doing it, and why not?
Dogs are being treated more likehumans every day. As long as you remember that dogs are not HUMANS, and they need to do doggie things, even on their bday, then whats the problem?
Tell your kids they would be pretty sad if they didnt get 1 day out of the year to be their special day!

We have a party every year. Doggie friends, doggie birthday cake (last year was a bone shaped venison cake with pink cream cheese frosting and rawhide swizzle sticks instead of candles), doggie ice cream. All of the doggie friends bring a gift. We have a cookout, and people eat hot dogs & hamburgers.
Dogs should be celebrated. Who else in your life will never find fault with you, criticize you, or blame you for anything?

No, you aren't crazy. A lot of people have B-day parties for their dogs, and cats too. If you, your dogs, and their doggy guests (including humans) enjoy it. There isn't any thing to worry about. Like the old saying goes. Different strokes for different folks. Have fun!

No you're not nuts! Or at least you have a healthy group of nutty people who do the same thing! I think it's great. I've gone to a couple of doggie parties myself where everyone brings their dogs and it's a blast. I bring my dog to work and on her birthday ordered her a pizza (she got a slice) and all the coworkers partook in the festivites and had fun. So go ahead and have a birthday party for your fur-kids!

You're not crazy, but at the same time you aren't normal either. I have a dog, and two cats, I love them but, birthday parties aren't really normal if they're for animals, you shouldn't of posted this beecause you might be offended by some answers, but in my oppinion, you're just an individual, just like everyone else, with your own ideas.

According to your children I must be crazy too, but I don't care because I enjoy it. So, who cares what people think. In fact I am planning on throwing a birthday party for my dog's birthday this month.

My sister in law and I both throw birthday parties for our babies! She has two portugese water dogs and I have a black lab. They are the sweetest animals! I realize that it is hard for people to understand how easily we become attached to our pets and they become members of our families. Our Sadie is def. like a child in our home! You're not crazy, just emotionally attached!
