I have Windows ME ( Yes i know it is rubbish ) but it is all i can afford at the moment. My problem is i am trying to add a scanner its a UMAX Astra 610P. I have put disk that came with it into the drive and when i go to run it a pop up tells me to insert disk into drive E. I have tried other Disks and have the same problem. My computer is a Hewlett Packard Kayak XAs. It has two hard drives C and D, i don't know how to access drive D.
I am not very up on computers.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Go to the UMAX web site and download the install from there. Should come with a "setup" you can run that will instll the drivers without having to go to the E drive to get them.

If your E drive is not reading ANY disk, then I would suspect that it is bad. You will probably need to replace the drive itself.

I assume that your E: drive is a CD-ROM, if it is true insert the CD in the drive and try to install your scanner.

drive D is a secured drive, its used for backups and other things (designed by HP) if you have 2 cd/dvd drives try putting the disk into the other drive.

have you ever tried downloading the main contemporary motive force application for the cd/dvd diskcontinual you put in. it might desire to be so new that even your laptop would not recognize it because it is no longer in its memory documents as a make it recognises.

The other option you can do is check with the scanner manufacturer site and see if you can download the drivers if the disc won't read.

Hello,

Try rebooting your computer and then go to my computer and click the d drive.

If that doesnt work good luck and talk to the support system.
