Your question assumes the existence of something called the soul, but there is not credible evidence to suggest the soul exists, much less that it survives death.

I can only tell you what God's Word tells us. Ecclesiastes 12: 7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. 2 Corinthians 5: 6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

We don't have a soul, we ARE spirit souls. We (the spirit soul) are the driver of the body. When tho body becomes old and useless we abandon it and get a brand new one and start over again inside the womb of a female. This is called the cycle of birth and death or Samsara Wheel.

Man does not have a soul, man is a soul. The soul is the union of the body with the breath of life. When you cease to breathe, your soul ceases to be. You go to the grave, and your thoughts cease. You will be raised in the first resurrection if you have accepted the life of YAHOSHUA. If you have not, you will be resurrected to be in the lake of fire which is how YHVH will cleans this earth, removing sin and sinners, so He can make all things new.

Death doesn´t exist. Soul = spirit + body. When your body dies, you move on. So be careful with your beliefs. The Universe acts accordingly.
Some people don´t know they are dead.

Some people go to sleep. Because they belief it´s the right thing to do.

If we receive Jesus as our Savior, our penalty for sin is paid. We are adopted into God's family, and Heaven is our eternal home. If we reject Jesus, we remain alienated from the Lord and under condemnation for our sin. We are destined to experience eternal judgment. God won't accept any of man's excuses because there is no acceptable defense for unbelief. (Acts 4:12)
