Use hydrogen peroxide as your mouthwash. Most over the counter tooth whiteners use hydrogen peroxide as the whitening agent (read the labels)

You can purchase hydrogen peroxide (3% in the brown bottle) at your local grocery or drug store for about $1 for a 16 ounce bottle.

To use, after brushing and flossing, mix 1/2 ounce of hydrogen peroxide with 1/2 ounce of HOT water and swirl around your mouth for about 1 minute. Hydrogen peroxide has no taste but it may foam and make your mouth sting a bit. After swirling, SPIT OUT the hydrogen peroxide mix (DO NOT SWALLOW) and then rinse your mouth out several times with cool water.

In addition to whitening your teeth, hydrogen peroxide will freshen your breath and help prevent future cavities (hydrogen peroxide kills the bacteria in your mouth that causes bad breath and cavities).

Baking soda, watch your gums though. Also, you may want to spring for a home bleaching kit from your dentist. Also, flossing daily really does help too.
