It is not considered one of the main languages of europe.I would think it would be quite difficult to recruit qualified teachers who were also fluent in Portuguese.Portuguese is a much nicer language than Spanish (castillian) with that awful 'th' sound 'grathias' instead of 'gracias' and 'Barthelona.'Those silly inverted question marks before a question are annoying too.I learned some Portuguese after leaving school and going there on holiday.Infelizmente, nao falo bem portugues..so um poco.

Portuguese has historically always been a minority language in Europe like Danish, Dutch and Gaelic. However, it is no longer just the language of Portugal but also Brazil Brazil will probably become the dominant political, economic and military power in Latin America some day. Portugese may even become the dominant language of the southern hemisphere because t's also spoken by many people in Angola, Mozambique and Timor.
When all this happens, I'm sure that Portugese language courses will be offred regularly in British and American schools and colleges.

I don´t remmber being given the opprtunity to learn anything, I was force fed French (spit) and German (spit) becasue some dunce thought it would be really useful to learn 2 of the least spoken languages on the planet, personally it would have been more useful to learn to speak Spanish (which I now speak) Chinese or Arabic.
anyway no point putting portuguese on the list of options just becasue 5 out of 5 million students wants to learn it
