Im sorry if I did not make myself clear in my question regarding whether or not atheists are trusting individuals. I was not bashing them. I really wanted to know. The people I know that are claimed atheists seem to hate the whole world and trust no one. Sorry if I offended anyone. Not my intent.

Think about it before making assumptions. First, you can't know very many if 'they' all are the same. People tend to differ from one another, even if they agree on one aspect. Second, there's a difference between hate and anger. People looking forward to a violent end, except for a few, including them, sound like they're the hateful ones. And last, Atheists do have some trust. They trust that polar bears are real, even if they've never seen a live example. They just don't 'trust' some religion that can't be proven, has contradictions and defies nature. Anyone who tries to preach a lie, is not usually going to be a very reliable source.

You are nice to say so. No offense taken. I am agnostic/atheist. Atheist at least in most people's concept of what a believer is. I allow their may be some much more naturalistic God like force but I am agnostic about it. I don't believe in a personal God or organized religion. I am happy and generally not hateful. I am cautious with regards to strangers but most people who I know are also (as I think they should be) regardless of beliefs. I tend to trust people more the more I get to know them and they reveal themselves to be trustworthy individuals. So I have different levels of trust for people in my life. I think this is just good common sense, not related to my religious belief or lack of belief. As for hateful and distrustful atheists, I know they are out there. Some people become atheists because they were hurt in life and are angry. This is a very superficial reason to be an atheist. Most atheists that I know are not this superficial in their beliefs and many are pretty happy and well adjusted people. I also know hateful and untrusting Christians. Its just an individual thing.

I didn't read your other question. I'm an atheist and, yes, I trust people. I mean, depends on the person, but generally speaking, yes. And, no, I don't hate the whole world. But then again, I'm French, and people don't really talk about religion there, so that it's easier not to blame things on Christians. We don't have hard-core Christians who try to preach to us all the time, so it's like: whether you believe or not is actually not an issue! I have friends I don't even know if they believe in God!

You probably know more atheists than you think. Most of us do not publicly (except here on Y!A) claim to be atheists. Only my close friends and a very few family members know I'm an atheist. Even my parents do not know. The people who I know are atheists are very trustworthy. And I don't hate the world...I am grateful to be able to live in this world, with the good and bad.

I think some atheists are a little "touchy". Not to make excuses for them, but I think they have good reasons.

George Bush said they shouldn't be considered citizens. (The first George).

In many polls and surveys, parents would rather have a child who was gay or in a gang than have an atheist.

I think that many go into discussions about religion with a very big defensive posture for these reasons.

I know one. He is very caring, loving, considerate, sweet human being. Elderly, very respectful, very stubborn, enjoys a good debate as it seems most do, but I've never met the ones who you say hate the whole world and trust no one.

It is hard for me to believe that God will not save this elderly man soon. I pray for it to happen.

Atheists are good people too, but from a Catholic point of view they are not going to be able to enter heaven because they don't believe in it ot practice ritualistic processes...

I've actually seen some atheists who were quite content and I've also seen some self-professed Christians who were unhappy. It all depends on the individual.

Who cares if you offend? If people can't take it, then they need to move on. You weren't using any racial slurs or any other illegal language were ya? This is America and you have a right to your opinion!!!
