I've been dating my boyfriend for about seven months now, we are happy and get along great. Of course being a girl I told him I loved him around our forth month together, he didn't say it back , but he did say he had strong feelings. I didn't bring the issue back up because I didn't want to force someone into loving me if they didn't.

One night we had been drinking and he got emotional and told me that he loved me and that he was very happy. He couldn't stop saying it. Then the next morning he wouldn't bring it up, he would say, "I told you something very special last night." So he knows what he said. It's been about a month now and he only tells me he loves me when he has been drinking or during well you know. I've caught him telling me he loves me when he thinks I'm sleeping..

I know that in his past he was very hurt by someone, she cheated and got Pregnant by another man, so I understand..

What do you guys think?

I don't know about women but I think most men find it hard to say "I love you" because they feel that it makes them vulnerable. If you say "I love you" to someone and they don't respond you naturally feel hurt. When people say "I love you" what they really mean is "please love me". Every man has experienced one time or another having another man refuse to shake hands with him.
Every man has experienced one time or another a woman refuse a goodnight kiss. These are all a form of rejection. When you
offer yourself even by complimenting someone and they don't respond you feel rejected. To say to someone "I love you" is the ultimate compliment. But you make yourself open to be hurt. You become vulnerable.

don't push him on the L word.... let it come naturally,,, sometimes saying that too early can scare him away or vice versa.. If you are always together then its a given,,, show your love for eachother,,, stop worying about saying it for now...

You have your answer. I think girls use 'i love you' as if it was a wedding ring. meaning that-(girls feel guys should act like the girl is the only thing in life they should think about).
