Have you tried cross training with a rowing machine? you get that burst of energy on the leg push the mid rift tightens and the arms and back throw in 20% at the end. My thinking is the practise of burst energy is better than stamina, i.e. heavy weights, long time in horse stance, as this will increase stamina not speed, but its just another option what ever gets you results

do lots of weight training on Ur legs but make sure u use very high reps

thing like no weight deep jumping squats

no weight high rep lunges

plus buy some ankle weights and practise kicking to the air hundreds of times then when u take them off Ill fell quicker

remember lots of people don't have as much fast twitch muscle fibres which make u explosive i am one of them, i need time to warm up and can look slow but that hasn't stopped me from so far In my relatively short kickboxing career being unbeaten i just focus on training hard and often. im guessing, though i may be wrong that u are probably training in tkd or karate which has more of an emphasis on how flashy u look when kicking the air, I'm not bashing the art but just keep in mind that just because u mate looks better at kicking the air then u doesn't mean u cant kick his ***, for example look at mike Tyson shadow boxing and he looks amazing then watch lennox Lewis shadow boxing and he looks like he cant box to save his life but we all no what happen when they fought

hope this helped good luck

hi there

Best way is to practise your kicking techniques as light as possible. Use little muscle strength and be relaxed. Be light on your feet and don't concentrate too much on kamae. Once you have built up your speed start working on directing the focus towards the point of contact. Then add power using your leg muscles. Finally tidy the whole thing up working on your form.

Practise makes permanent not perfect!

in the art of kung fu,speed defines the winner
but tai kwane do,a strait kick is faster than a side kick, and the best training is tieing 2 deung bells to your feet(probly 20 ibs.)and just go beast mode with those things, you'll find improvement within 3 days, and do not take those bells off till 3 days remember

i think stretching every day helps because you can loosen up the joints which helps as if you have tight joints you cant get as much height or speed. after this i recommend bending the rear standing leg slightly with a tight guard and firing out a particular kick as fast as you can but making sure you do it properly with foot shapes and chambers etc. if you keep repeating this method it will start to get faster. afterwards make sure you do another light stretch to keep your joints healthy.

i do taekwondo and am now a black belt. i was taught to allways lean back, bring your foot up to your chest, and kick. Allways remember to have your fists tight. If you do this slowly and reapeadedly, your kickig speed will increase.

Use a kick bag and keep practising. Faster until you sweat.

practice practice practice, make sure you incorporate the hips in the kick, and always try to return the leg quicker than you extended it.

practice your technique, improve your strength and flexiblity and be relaxed when you kick, if you are tensed up your kick will be much slower.
