Hi Denny,

A lot of people have told me that in recent times. I think it means you criticise yourself too much, your expect more from yourself than others do, and you beat yourself up over things that are either not your fault or aren't that important. Sometimes it can mean that you've set too high of a standard for yourself and when you don't meet it, you get down about it, when in all honesty you weren't being rational to begin with. Take things easy, lifes not supposed to be so hard...try not to look at what you have done "wrong" or haven't achieved and look at everything you have done right and the people that love and care for you!

Just remember no one is perfect, we all make mistakes and have up's/downs and also need a little help sometimes:) best of luck!

i don't comprehend what having a counsellor is like via fact i've got in no way considered one or had an appointment with one. yet from listening to different peoples reviews i'd basically say tell them stuff that's been bothering you presently and tell them the type you sense related to the region that's been bothering you. and additionally basically tell them some advantageous issues that's been happening :)

That you blame yourself for things you cannot control like putting yourself in a guilt trip saying everything is your fault when it really isnt it is life it happens we make the best of it and then live again....good luck and you shouldnt be too hard on yourself...can make a person go insane

She probably meant that you beat yourself up (metaphorically) about things that were/are beyond your control or for past 'failures'. Perhaps you could explore the idea with her further; you may be blaming yourself for all sorts of things that aren't your fault and you may be feeling a lot of guilt.

Have a go at focusing on good, positive things you have done and on all the great things you CAN do.

Good wishes for your continuing counselling sessions. ~RJS

You've got to be nice to yourself - if all you do is critise yourself, your self confidence will plummet and you will feel bad about yourself.

Often, when we are depressed, we judge ourselves far too harshly. We are kind and understanding with other people, but with ourselves we are highly critical.

You cannot expect to get better overnight, and you are allowed bad days. You cannot expect to be perfect, and you must learn not to talk yourself down and beat yourself up if you make mistakes.

Hope this helps :)

You are probably self-critical and take things personally that other people say. People tell me I am too hard on myself all the time.

a big part of depression is thinking you are a failure or that you deserve a **** life
its not true
the illness makes you feel that way
all you can do is recognise it, it helps when you are depressed
you can then say to yourself, ok I dont deserve this really I just feel like it because Im depressed/stressed

I suffered and still do for years with depression and have no self confidence but Im starting to not blame myself now, **** happens
