Get a shh-tzu instead.
They look almost the same but they are smaller.
They also have long hair which needs regular grooming, but keep up with it weekly, and send them to the groomers monthly.

The are typically a lap dog. Many breeds are content to be a lap dog and if that is what you want you have a wide choice. You may want to consider adopting a small dog who might otherwise be euthanized. High maintenance dogs require a lot of time and patience so be prepared. Remember they are a lot like small children so teach him/her the word "no" as well as other manners and behavior traits. Good luck.

I had a Lhasa years back, I would definately recommend a shih tzu instead. My Lhasa was so hard to house train and I hate to say but the rest of the people here are right, they are stupid. Shih Tzu's are much more affectionate, clever and loyal.

We had one when I was a child, and it was stupid. She was very sweet, and liked everyone, but she was stupid. My mom had that dog for 13 years, and it never did learn to jump off the couch without hitting it's head on the coffee table. It would also run down the tiled hallway, and run right into the end of the wall, because it would try to stop to late and skid. I think it would have lived longer if it had learned to stop knocking itself out. She would also roll in her food before eating it, and talk about a mess. That long hair with food all knotted in it. She also rolled in some pop that got spilled on the porch one day while she was outside, and ants crawled all into her fur. That was awful I can't remember how mom got them out, but she did. That was the dumbest dog I have ever had by far. She was very pretty though. I wish you lots of patience and luck if you get one. I would seriously consider another breed.

If you look at the bottom of this page, there is a link to many of the Breed Clubs. Use them to find out all you need to know, then contact your nearest & ask them to give you details of an owner who would be willing to let you meet their dogs before you decide if they are the breed for you. If you do decide to buy, make sure you find a reputable breeder who eye tests all their dogs.

I LOVE DOGS, but i have to admit i dont like Lasas. I know all the Lasa owners out there are going to thumb me down, but they are the equivilant of a dumb, blonde protrayed in all dumb blonde jokes (no blondes be offended Im blonde too). I have seen so many in shelters and they are all the same type. Just brainless, and stubborn. They are not un-trainable but man give me a mutt or a pitt-bull anyday over a Lasa Apso. High Maintenance, Stubborn, bad tempered, you need to realllly reallllly realllly do your research and really shop for some well mannered and highly intellegent Lasa breeders out there before you buy. They are not good First time owner dogs!!! They of course are beautiful if you groom them every single cotton pickin day, but if you neglect them even for a few days MATTING MATTING MATTING and stinking and messy.
I know we had 2 as a teenager, both were my moms dogs and I couldnt stand being around them. Buffy bit the s**t out of me and my freinds and Tristan pissed on me when he was angry or just for a good laugh. I got back at him one day... mom asked me to brush him and i got tired and shaved him almost bald he hid for 2 days. it was HEEE-larious for me... though I never heard the end from my mom and he just got back at me one night when I was sleepin and he pee'd on me.

They are a wonderful dog but inherently stubborn like Shih-zus. They can't understand discipline so if you've loads of patience they are fabulous to have. They need brushing daily as their fur soon becomes luggy. They will amuse you to no end if they are allowed (within reason) to do as they please, when they please. They are adorable and love affection

This little Sh*t is great if you can be the dominant. I think he's cute as a button now that his hair is growing out. Its his attitude that's high maintenance.

lovely dogs usually, quite yappy and domineering, but very loyal. however they are very prone to getting awful skin conditions and having awful allergies, very expensive vets bills and expensive treatment. but if you can look past all of that. they can make lovely pets.
