Ignorance

I, and I'm sure many others do not knock religion except in self defence. Religious people post statements here on Answers questioning atheists many times. When one of those statements come up I let the one posting it know that I don't agree with him, and the reason why I don't.
It makes no difference to me whether a person believes or not, but don't preach to me. If everyone would keep his religion in his church, I'm sure the non-believers would be silent.
By the way, what does unconverting mean ?

As you will soon find out, by the answers you will receive. Atheists don't care to unconvert you. What you are feeling is fear. The reason you are fearful that they are trying this, is because most of what they are saying makes sense and it threatens your faith.

Therefore you are assigning sinister plans to these people that challenge your faith with questions. It makes it easier to disregard their questions, that are so threatening. You are displacing threat.

Of course, even though you will get 20+ answers stating that they don't care to unconvert you, you will ignor those and call them lies. You will do this to confirm your belief that they are out to get you, and are bad people, so that you won't have to face some of the questions they pose.

Faith is a tough thing to maintain, but don't assign guilt to get out of confirming your faith. Find a way to answer the atheist's questions that make sense to you. If you can't, then maybe you should reconsider your beliefs. Right?

I dont' want to unconvert you and could care less about your religion. As a matter of fact, I respect that you're a believer. Everyone should have something or someone to believe in, real or fantasy, whatever it takes.

I don't want to unconvert anyone just undermine those aspects of Christianity such as creationism that are adversely affecting other people. I don't want to look for scientific facts on the internet for example and be confronted by creationist websites with a religious agenda deliberately promoting misinformation.

I have no intention of trying to "unconvert" anyone. But when a question is asked of Atheists (I am Buddhist which is basically non-theistic) I answer honestly. It seems that many Christians just don't like the answers they receive. But it goes both ways my friend, there are many Christians who insist on trying to convert atheists. It is a viscious cycle.

Why do Christians feel they need to spread their religion? I am Catholic and feel good about myself, so I don't need to spread what I believe. It always seems that when one someone says something different to what someone believes they get real deffensive. Maybe this is because they have doubts about their own beliefs and need to reassure themselves.

Their has been more spread of Christianity or attempt of converting than any other religion in history.

atheist and born again Christians just love to bug each other.
Th real problem is they are both wrong,
It isn't what you believe or don't believe, it just wasting your time trying to convert the other,
the point we first have to be a human beings one who respects the others way of life and can tolerate all their silliness and go on with being a kind and friendly person,
then in the mean time you feel the desire to fall on your knees and pray for the salvation of the Atheist

I remember a story about what were the two worst things you could see coming down i 75 south.
one was a Tornado,
the other was a man walking toward you with a big smile on his face and a bible in his hand saying
"did you here about the lord"

The key is not why they do or don't, it is how they understand.
This is the key! Understanding!

I personally do not understand many things. However I may lean towards my own understanding, which can lead me to a form of ignorance. It also can lead me towards a form of Logic or Intelligence or Rationality, etc., etc., etc..

Does this understanding I have help me to help others. Maybe! Maybe not! But what it is, is my own understanding.

Now if I step outside of my own understanding and look towards another's understanding, will this enable me or disable me. For some the answer is yes! For others the answer is no!
Why?
If my answer was no, it is because I prefer my own understanding as the only way.
If my answer is yes, it is because I realized that my way is not the absolute way.

Does this make me stronger or weaker. For some it is a weakness, for others it is a strength.

The key to this whole issue is Understanding!

I only care about proving wrong the ones intent on forcing their religion down my throat by keeping it in my face, in the public eye, and in the laws of my country.

Christians who keep it out of my face have nothing to worry from me -- in fact I'm well studied in the religion and can be a valuable aid to people trying to learn about it and even to build up their faith.

It's only when they go on the offense and try to cut me down that I tear them to shreds.

You left out a pertinent word....SOME.

Not all atheists try to 'unconvert'.

How do you feel when people ask a question or make a statement that categorizes all Christians into one group?
