I enjoy playing poker (a lot), and I could be interested in watching on TV, but most of the programs out there are frusturating to watch.

You miss so much by just watching these over-edited poker tournaments on TV, where they condense 8 hours of poker into 1 hour (and in the 1 hour there are about 40 minutes of "fluff" - interviews, interest stories, and other clutter).

The game is oversimplified because you're only seeing 5% of the hands, and they selectively edit the hands to show only the ones that are exciting to talk about. This is understanding from their perspective, but it's not an accurate portrayal of the game. It allows commentators to shout "That Gus Hansen sure is a maniac!" and "What's that guy doing? He pushed all in with 5-6!" In reality, the table dynamics often dictate these plays, and you miss these when they're only showing you the crazy confrontations. As a poker player, understanding the flow of the game is much more interesting than seeing all-in fests.

I actually enjoy the FSN live broadcasts where they show every hand. You get to see each hand and understand how the game is going, and Lederer provides great commentary on how previous actions may have influenced the current plays. However, if you think the over-edited WSOP, WPT, etc. broadcasts are like watching paint dry, these will be unbearable.

So why do you watch it then? There are dozens of channels with all kinds of stuff going on. If poker is a little too high brow for you, there is sure to be another station showing a bunch of men running around a field. To each their own.

Not that i hate watching it. i just refuse to watch it. i don't like poker so i don't watch. what drives me totally insane is when you are bored and turn on a sports channel hoping to watch something and freakin poker is on. POKER AIN"T A SPORT!!!! nor is it a game. it's an addiction.

I do. I kind of feel like how I did when I was a kid at my Uncle's house on Poker night. Sitting there watching. All I need to make this memory complete is someone to tell me; "Go outside and play, leave us alone".

Well if you don't like watching it, that mean you don't play, and if you don't play, how can you criticize something you don't know anything about.....So yes it's just you.

Take care
