Since you are asking "what do hops make" I will presume that you are talking about the flower that is used in the flavoring and stabilization of beer although it is also used in some herbal medicines also.

The first documented use in beer is from the eleventh century.
The first documented instance of hop cultivation though, was in 736, in the Hallertau region of present-day Germany.
The United States became the chief supplier of hops to England after it was introduced to England in the 1500's. The US started exporting to England in 1629.

I think you can rest assured ...its Beer!

What the others don't mention, however, is what they taste like.

I tried chewing on one a few years ago and I can honestly say that I will never, never, never, never, ever, ever do it again!!
Its the most bitter taste I have had the misfortune to taste.
It stayed with me for about two days and even now , I wince when I think about it.

Hops don't make anything but you do put hops in beer.It gives a bitter taste to malt liquors. It is used in some medicines also. It is grown on a vine. Then there is hops, jumps, leaps and a dance.
