Great you can pick up a stuffed animal at any discount store and it will be perfect. Never an issue for you to contend with it will be just what you want.
When you are ready top be realistic and accept that a pet is work and responsibility and will not come just the way you want it then just start checking shelters and rescues.
Go to them and see if you can help foster a small dog at a time. Once it gets adopted try another this way you get some doggie experience and start realizing what characteristics work best for you. Get all set up with a small crate and dishes and go find a dog that needs someplace to live till its new family finds him. In turn the one you can't let go will come along and you will find the one for you to adopt.

Some people on here will jump on you and tell you they all shed but, I know what you mean (so do they). Some of the small dogs that don't shed are poodles, maltese, Bichons, most of the terriers, although many terriers have skin probs. Go online or to your library and look up small breeds. I'm sure there are more of them that either don't shed or shed very little. A Papillon sheds a little but, not too much and is an easy upkeep dog and very sweet. Check them out.

I was asking the same question over a month ago! I did lots of research to find the pup that fit my lifestyle best. I live in an apt and wanted a dog that was rather quiet so she wouldn't disturb my neighbors. I also wanted a dog that would let me hold them and play with them, but one that wasn't hyper or a yapper. After a lot of research (not to meantion the actual dog search) I decided that a Japanese Chin was the best fit for me. Although, you do have to look for these dogs, they can be found! However, there are two different sizes of chins those 7lbs and under (like mine) and those over 7lbs that can get almost 20 lbs (which still isn't as big as a cocker spaniel). If you want a smaller chin, you'll have to search for them. I would recommend one to anyone. Matter of fact, since I've had mine, I wouldn't mind having another one and I've only had her going on 3 weeks. I have gotten so many compliments on her and people asking me where I got her that they wanted one. Good luck!

dogs that are considered not to shed are called hypoallergenic, these type of dogs include bichon frise, Maltese, Yorkshire terriers, poodles, shih tzu, Lhasa apso, and most breeds that are mixed with poodles but those tend to be a bit large, as far as temperament goes, get a male, they tend to attach themselves to a female owner, and make sure you get them from a USDA licensed pet store or a reputable USDA licensed breeder, but make sure you do your research and just because it's at the pound doesn't mean you need to save it, most of them have been treated so horribly already that they're never going to be nice again and you don't know what your getting yourself into as far as temperament. i work in a pet store and I've had heard some horror stories that you wouldn't believe!

No place to undertake dogs for loose different than craigslist or different classifieds. in case you will no longer be able to locate the money for to pay the look after $one hundred for a dogs, then you definately will no longer be able to locate the money for a dogs. dogs have a tendency to love stability. that's confusing on a dogs to be vacationing a ton, except they have some form of stability. changing inn rooms is tough on many dogs. additionally, once you first connect a band, there's a ton of vacationing to craphole bars and staying 5 to a room in a craphole inn. you oftentimes stay in craphole residences with definitely everyone smoking, doing drugs, and ingesting - somewhat waiting to feed your self. no longer precisely what you will desire to disclose a dogs to. If mom needs a dogs, and she or he's domicile sufficient to look after it for the subsequent 10-15 years, then permit her %. the dogs. If it is going to be as much as you to look after it, wait until you're in a greater efficient place to attain this.

Shih tzu's are small, usually very friendly and they don't shed as much as other furry dogs- people with allergies are not very allergic to them either. I think they are great lil' dogs. I have had them before- right now I have a scotty/ schnauzer mix and she is a great dog too.
