I have been friends with a guy for almost 10 years, he's one of my best friends. Recently though we were talking and he said some things that kind of have me confused. He knows I'm single and seem to have no luck with guys lately but he has a girlfriend. He was asking what kind of guy I was looking for and then proceeded to ask if I would date someone like him. After giving him my answer, which was yes, he told me that he and his girlfriend have been fighting a lot lately. I just wanted to know why he would ask something like that, it's totally out of character for him.

He's been with his girlfriend for 2 years and FYI I refuse to be a rebound for anybody.

The thing is-you and he have been friends for years. As a matter of fact, you say he has been with his girl for, what? Two years? It may be possible that he was your friend all this time because he has a thing for you and always have. His current girlfriend may be quarreling with him because of your friendship-she may can sense his feelings for you are not like they are for her-and she may not like that.
He asked you because he wanted to know if he had a chance. It seems to me he does, cause I think you have feelings for him too. But you're correct-you don't deserve to be no one's rebound! So I say this, if he comes at you again with the same question-and this time you hear he and his girlfriend have broke up-say nothing about THEIR relationship until he says something. Play by hear, so to speak. Then, if he talks about you and him together, lay it down and tell him you like him but he needs time to get over the past relationship so you can know you are not a rebound-and show it by not waiting foe him to take you out or ask you out-make yourself busy to let him know other men can have you too if they play their cards right. Hope this helps.

When relationships get rocky, some people start to look for the next step so that it can be a smooth transition for him/her. He's not thinking about the feelings that he could end up hurting, he's all about himself right now. You've known him for 10 yrs, how come none of this came up back then? Just tell him that you're not going to be "that other woman" for him and if he's really serious, then he'd close everything up w/his girlfriend (because he does have one) and take it slow with you, but not until he really makes up his mind, because after all, you do have a 10 yr friend relationship that could go up in flames, now is that really worth it?

The guy wants out of his current relationship, trust me. I ended up dating my friend of three years, and now we are getting married next year. Sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn't. In my opinion it is very hard to have a solid plutonic relationship with the opposite sex. At one point or another i am sure you have thought about hooking up. Give it a shot, unfortunately your friendship has been put on the back burner the minute that question was asked and the second you answered it. Might as well go for gold.

Because he wants you but he is too chicken to come right out and ask you..kind of beating around the bush...well do you want a man eh..boy like that or do you want a REAL MAN? I hate men who cant stand up for himself!
I love real strong men with huge muscles not whimpy men!

Sounds like he's really interested in you and never felt comfortable till now to find out if you shared the same feelings. The best relationships start as friendships!!!

So ask him...we don't know any more than you do about the situation and can only come to the same conclusion that you doubtless have also...he may be considering asking you out (hopefully only after he's ending things with his current gf)...

He is the best person to answer your questions!
However, he either asked because he thought about being with you, or maybe he wants to help you to find someone.

Sounds to me like he was wondering if you would date him if he dumps the girlfriend. Easiest way to find out is to ask him what is going on.

He's definitely considering you ... I think for a relationship to work, you have to be best friends first and most so you should go for it.
