It seems to be used whenever people don't like something but cannot come up with a good reason why it should not be done.. Either that or their command of the English language is very limited or unimaginative.

I really don't mind that word, but what gets my blood boiling is this "management speak". I worked in a couple of call centres and the management could not speak in proper sentences without using weird phrasing. Even the HR people who used to be personnel use it. God help us all!!!

You are right, but only when inappropriate to do so, otherwise it is appropriate not to say "inappropriate." If in doubt as to the appropriateness of the word, it is better to do the appropriate thing, and not use the word.

LOL. Admittedly I do use it more than I perhaps ought, but maybe it is because of the way some of us were trained when young!

I love that word I do and will use it at every opportunity. I from this point shall use it inappropriately where ever possible.

Yes, I am tired of the inappropriate use of the word inappropriate.

Haven't noticed the over use of that word or how one could use it in the way you describe. "Absolutely" is going the rounds as an in-word. I don't dislike it as it is better then "no problem"

What other word(s) would you suggest using instead of "inappropriate"?

You're right. It's totally inappropriate.

I don't even get to hear it in my English lessons (which I find completely unnecessary - we're learning how to form tenses ...feel like 4th grade again) ...so basically no :D
