Hyperthyroidism is characterized by hypermetabolism and elevated serum levels of free thyroid hormones. Symptoms are many but include tachycardia, fatigue, weight loss, and tremor. Diagnosis is clinical and with thyroid function tests. Treatment depends on cause.
Please see the web pages for more details on Hyperthyroidism.

I had overactive thyroid. Symptoms included not being able to gain weight despite eating like a horse (ok, this was a symptom I liked), muscle weakness, eyes started to bulge out (unfortunately, they didn't really go back to normal after treatment), and tremors in hands. I took medication for a while, then received two doses of radioactive iodine treatment. Now I have underactive thyroid and will take Synthroid for the rest of my life.

Do a search on Graves' Disease. Graves is the doctor that first found this condition. Get it treated as early as possible. There is a foundation and help groups all over North America.
